Bone bruise

Hi all, new to this group. I suffered bone bruise identified through mri after tennis injury 10 months ago. Still in constant pain and consultant referred me to pain management clinic today and for another mri. There is very little info on bone bruise, does anyone have any experience of this? Started to affect my mental health too as was previously very active and now going out/doing anything makes it hurt more.

Thanks

There is a long wait, normally, for a pain management appointment, and I, personally, wonder if it is worth it. The PM team will not try to reduce your pain or diagnose why or what makes it more painful, they are only interested in helping you to manage your pain. This involves various techniques, including mindfulness and distraction. I would prefer, in your case, to find out the cause of the pain and why it is not improving.

Thank you for your response, I hope the next mri will show the bone bruise has shrunk. I know it’s this causing the pain but managing it is hard.

See a McTimony chiropractor. The pain may be due to over contracted muscle pulling on bone. All one can do is investigate. A sports therapist may be able to help.

Thank you

If you damage a bone or joint, the bone will bleed, this may initially cause a yellowing bruise. As the bruise, Blood raises to the surface, as the bone heals the bruise will be blue/black on the skin then will be absorbed back into the blood supply the bruise will then clear as the bone damage heals. This can take a longer time period than that of a standard bruise.

It may be the bone damage has leaked into a joint, if this is the case the pain will take longer to heal as the old blood in the joint disappears. Eventually given time the joint will clear and all will return back to normal

You will possibly need to manipulate the limb by exercise as the damage heals to keep movement in the joint

Thank you Bob. Currently using exercise bike and have found local sports massage so 🤞 things will start to improve

Got 2nd mri results back, bone bruise almost healed but small meniscus tear which apparently is common and doesn’t warrant surgery. Consultant was most helpful I’ve seen. He thinks pain is down to muscle wastage and weakness, so have joined gym and got some personal fitness sessions in as well as sports massage. Had first session and felt really good to get back doing things 😎 thanks for all your comments.
