Cervical stenosis??

Was just wondering if anyone receives and benefits in the UK with cervical stenosis? And what medication are you on if your still able to work? Help!! X

You're saying "help" but what help do you need??

It doesn't matter what condition you've got, it's how it affects you so unfortunately asking if people with cervical stenosis get any benefits is irrelevant as they may be affected differently to you.

Are you in work and needing advice/experience of certain medication that will allow you to remain at work? Again, this is difficult to answer because medications affect people differently too so a particular one might not be suitable.

I wish I could've replied to you more positively but I/we really need to know a little more information before responding!

Thanks and yeah I understand what ya saying.. I'm currently in my 15th week of being off sick at work.The medication I take at present won't allow me to drive which is needed everyday. I'm still in pain alot of the time aswell. I receive ssp from my employer. I'm only 41 and up till now have worked full time since the age of 18. I guess I'm just worried incase I can't return. I've heard that stenosis is not classed as a health condition to claim any benefits. X

Have you had an MRI scan. Has surgery been discussed. A lamenectomy is an operation to relieve compression on the spine. This condition won't get better by itself and drugs are not the answer.

There isn't a list of 'conditions' that automatically means that you wouldn't receive either JSA/ESA or PIP. It's all assessed on how a condition affects you. Definitely worth looking into applying for ESA if you're struggling to work because of the stenosis; possibly PIP too.

Yeah my mri shows moderate stenosis. In all 7 parts of my spine in both sides. Have 4 bulging discs aswell. Surgery is not a option until it becomes severe. Basically have to live with it. Thanks for your reply xx

Hi Victoria ,sorry to hear of your plight. As has been said pip and esa depends on how your condition affects you ..it's not for the condition . Some people have a stenosis and can perform 'as normal' others (myself included) are unable to work normally. I have . Lumbar stenosis/cervical stenosis/ osteoarthritis/nerve pain/facet joint arthritis /spondylothesis..all which create chronic pain,problems walking,climbing stairs ,upper strength blah blah I was medically retired from my career job,I've managed a couple of small jobs with the hours getting less and less til now I don't do anything apart from sitting pets and homes. I originally got was,then a friend said put in for PIP so I did and have been granted care and mobility standard til 2019,then it gets looked at again. So depending on how yours affects you depends on what you might get..but ..if you don't try you won't know.

Thanks for replying. I have many of the symptoms you have and barely function at all. In this last year I've gone from working 40 hours to 33 and less and less as the year has went on. I'm now on sick at 16 weeks. It's scary to think I won't be able to go back as I love my job. I'm a support worker for the local council and it's pretty demanding. At present I can't even look after myself. X
