Fentanyl are very good but need time and maybe a higher dose?

But for the moment I think you have had withdrawal. My husband came off them after 12 yrs, for different reasons, and he was poorly for about 3 months even though he was taking Oxycontin.

Sadly with some drugs there is no alternative but he should have cut you down slowly. What dose were you taking?

Too many GPs do not realise the side effects and withdrawal can be worse than the pain sometimes.

Speak with him and if you still aren't happy ask to see another GP.

Good Luck

Can u not see a different gp at the same surgery? If you're really unhappy with your doc (presuming your in the UK that is) you can switch to another surgery within your catchment zone whenever u like.

Do you think you're having withdrawals from the fentanyl? It's a serious opiate so if it's stopped too quickly without an appropriate replacement opiate then obvs there'll be done nasty withdrawal symptoms.

I'm not familiar with zomorph, but it's obvs morphine based so I guess it's all about the comparable opiate strengths as to whether or not you'll feel a withdrawal from the fentanyl.

I was on Fentanyl patches over a year ago and they were not helping anymore however the GP put me on Zomorph straight away but he had to sit with another GP and work out the correct dosage of Zomorph that equalled the dosage of Fentanyl I was on so there was not a drop in the dosage of opiates. This took them about 20mins to work out the changeover.

I didn't feel any withdrawal symptoms at all then the GP later increased the Zomorph to help me feel better x

Chrissy62 this is exactly how responsible Doctors and Patients work together.

I just had a wee bit of a rant when it comes to "our rights" to receive adequate pain relief without the interference of Addicts !

Hope all is as well, as is possible, - for you☺

hello, thank you.... i have been in hospital all day with very severe chest pains and turned out to be the zomorph they are now weaning me off this so i will be on nothing as this is doing me more harm than good

I am currently being weaned off Zomorph as this has now been indicated that it is better for short term use after say an operation, or cancer patients etc.

I'm almost there but not been easy - keep getting withdrawal symptoms - but will be put on Gabapentin or Pregablin when finally off Morphine.

Currently taking Amitriptalyn for muscle relaxation to help me sleep x

is gabapentin and pregablin pain relief then???

thankfully i was only on zomorph 5-6days so i am hoping it wont be as bad as the fentanyl

hope everything goes ok for you

Thank you

Yes they are tania32, they apparently cover nerve pain which is a massive pain caused through having widespread osteoarthris, in fact my knees are now bone on bone but unable to have knee replacement surgery due to other medical conditions - so currently on the Morphine reduction programme before moving onto different pain killers as above x

Just on CBC News this morning. I'ts stupid naive kids and "irresponsible people" who leave their pain medications lying around for others to be stupid enough to "experiment" and yes, they will experient or Addicts that will go to any lengths -yes any lengths to get there sick mind and paws on someone else's medication and then go out onto the streets and sell "whatever drug it is!" to buy their own "drug of choice" These "Addicts" need some serious intervention because this is ruining alot of people's right to live a relatively pain free life in order to perform the smallest of daily activities. It's not the poor innocent person who can't even get the hell out of their living space to get to see a Doctor !!! Some may have no alternative but to call an ambulance and guess what "Addicts"? these very people who "need" pain relief are suffering like hell due to others "Addictions" More and More People are being unwittingly thrown into this category and it is wrong in every way. Denying people who are living in"Sheer Hopeless Hell" can not get the pain relief they have the right to receive! There's Alcohol Anonymous for Alcoholics and there is NA - Narcotics Anonymous for Addicts - go straighten your lives out and live happily ever after 😀! I'm very serious about this topic !!!

How bad is your pain in your tummy? If you are female Tania and only 32 years old it could be anything from appendicitis to Ovarian Cysts to a number of things The suggestion that I have is to get to the root of your Health Issue before you think you need narcotic medication. In your case perhaps the Doc. thought that you only needed for a short period of time. Your still on "Zomorph" ???

Hi there..I hope this finds you feeling a little better now..?? Sorry you've had such a horrible experience. I take Zomorph and Gabapentin..spinal problems. I have to say though..to begin with I had dreadful tummy pains and after visiting my GP..and being examined..it was down to the drugs slowing my system down..so basically constipation..! The pain was awful to the point I could hardly walk and felt faint..! I now take docusate which helps enormously. As for withdrawal symptoms...my Zomorph is a slow release over 12 hours, but have been an hour or more late taking it before and goodness..the symptoms are dreadful just in that short time. Terrible tummy pains, sweats, shaking, extreme fatigue and generally just feeling really poorly. By the sounds of things this is a little of what's been happening with you maybe..? All these drugs mentioned by everyone are so strong. I always make sure I've had food prior to taking, otherwise I feel very nauseous..again..not a nice experience..! I'm wishing you well on your quest to find the right pain relief and take care good care of yourself in the meantime. Gentle hugs x

The doctor should have reduced the fentanyl slowly to reduce the possibility of withdrawal side effects. See a pharmacist. They are trained to know about drugs and so may be able to give you advice before you go back to your doctor concerning your medication.
