Crumbling neck: Hi everyone.... I'm 38 but got... - Pain Concern
Crumbling neck
I'm so sorry to hear what you are experiencing at such a young age.
How did your spinal problems start? I had a road accident at 18 when I was hit by a car coming from the left that was parked in a long row of parked cars on my left. The driver jumped into car and just pulled out. I went into the side of the car, spun through the air and landed on the right side of my head. So, major whiplash which has resulted in 6 prolapsed discs over the years ( I'm now 61)
I've had multiple surgeries both neck and lumbar spine. The most successful of all, were the newer procedures, a couple of microdiscectomies which kept disc height and also a lumbar artificial disc replacement, this also preserves motion, disc height and doesn't increase load on the discs either side as traditional fusion does.
I wish you well, neck pain is so debilitating.
Take good care
Shirley

Oh no that's terrible Shirley!! Did they catch the idiot? Mine was through domestic violence... Not had decent sleep in 6 years, pain is unbearable worse than childbirth!!! I'm waiting on second opinion as they just were fobbing me off,had to fight to get MRI scan they didn't want to waste their money or time I was furious, but looks like I'm going to have to chase them again ,already been to MP,NHS is just getting worse and to think our lives are in there hands frightening!!! You take care Shirley and thanks for your reply xx
I'm so sorry Jo, thats a tough life to have lived and the damage remains.
Yes, its so wrong but it seems we have to fight for medical support all the way. I hope you get a reasonable path forward soon. What hospital are you under? If you havent already I suggest you research what the best options are for what the MRI says is causing your pain. Knowledge is power and holding your own power will be super important for you with your history.
Sending you my very best wishes,
Here with support if needed,
Shirley

If you can copy any paste it might be worth just putting the scan report on here - some folk are good at 'translating!'

Hi JoRockall
Sorry to hear about your situation. I'm 43 and at the age of 37 discovered that I've also got the spine of a 90 year old π©
Mine is in my lumbar spine though. I've had three lots of spinal surgery for prolapsed and degenerative discs - trying to repair, re-trying to repair and to see whatever else can be done!
Mine is just a case of bad luck - have got degenerative disc disease that is now slowly affecting each disc upwards from the lumbar ones that have had surgery already.
The pain is horrendous at times, unbearable at best. I'm officially disabled - whatever that technically means! Have neuropathy in my right leg and drop foot. I need two crutches to get about - which is excruciating sometimes, not so bad other times.
On a shed-load of meds with all manners of side effects but without them, the effects are unthinkable.
Anyway, what I'm eventually getting around to say is - this forum knows your pain, understands your pain and will be with you through your pain!
A new spine is what I'd like too but neither Santa or The Easter Bunny have managed to secure that deal yet. π
What meds are you on? Do you have a pain management team in your area (NHS or otherwise)? Is your GP any good at all?

What's going on in your neck? I assume you've been given a diagnosis. I'm so sorry you're feeling this excruciating pain because I've been through it and sometimes you feel you can't go on another day. Hang in there and will pray you find the one Dr. That will have the answers. One great Dr. Is sometimes all it takes.
Thanks Dexter... I'm not sure ATM as waiting on second opinion ππbut it's not good, getting worse if anything! Thanks for your reply I'm overwhelmed with support on this page! ππππ
