I have been on everything with no success! My Doctor wants me to try Fentyln patch! I checked it out on google and what I read terrifies me! Going on it the first time can cause trouble. They say it is a horrible withdrawal! I am very much afraid! Have any of you been through this??? Would appreciate any input!!

Hugs!

Hello Trishi46

Ah Dr Google our sometimes best friend!

Was what you read from others personal experiences of Fentanyl? Like all pain meds - what suits one person is no good for another.

David has been on them for about 10 yrs very succesfully too. Pre Fentanyl he was on oramorph which he had to stop due to self medicating.

He started on 50 I think and went up to 100 over those years. Did have 125 during a really bad patch but that zombified him so came back down to 100.

Only side effects, and they were rare, was a bad patch which wasn't effective and problems with the sticky coming off in the showe. Bit of micropore tape sorted that.

They are 72 hr slow release and if he ever forgot to change them he did feel very bad with the pain.

At present he is migrating to Oxycontin which is the same family but stronger.

Would certainly give them a try but like any strong pain meds - coming off them has to be a very slow process.

Hope this helps

Thank you Paton for your first hand experience with it. They were saying that everyone should stay away from it, your life will never be the same.

I have been on other drugs, but this terrified me!!!!!!! They were talking about respiratory distress and death!!!! Thank you for your input!

Hugs & Blessings!

Oh twaddle. David has COPD and never affected his breathing. And he is still alive too!

If you GP thinks you should use them 0 then take his advice. You ill gainfar more benefits than those trying to scaremonger.

Bigger hugs

Death could happen if you use a patch and then another before the end of 72 hrs. It's just like all the other meds

How mean of you to make a remark like that to someone who is already frightened???? You lack empathy and respect!.

Learn some courtesy and good manners!!!

Oh dear Johnso45 that's a horrible thing to say.

You can get run over by a bus enroute to your chemist too.

There are risks with all prescription meds if you overdose but why would you do that?

Your comment is destructive and unless you have first hand experience it isn;t kind to say this

Whoa, I'm the least destructive person. Taken the wrong way by you and Trish so my bad. Fetynal list death, right? I was saying only if you put one on before the 72 hrs are up, that's where the problem comes up. Just like any other med if you are not careful to follow directions, but this one is worse if you would double up. Yes someone died in my area from using 3 in 3 days. I am well aware of the agony we all feel trying to manage life and pain. I do it daily while I'm called lazy. We are treated like less then who we are because, unless you cry, no one knows how you feel because you try to keep smiling. My prayer for all is that we would see miracles in our day that would end our agony and give us answers. That we'd be treated with respect and mercy. Sorry you misunderstood. God bless

Apology accepted but for goodness sakes - why would anyone put 3 on in 3 days? There is an answer too that but not here.

The instructions are very clear anf if GP thinks you can't manage to understand them he won't prescribe them.

As for being labelled lazy I think that isanother topic Unless you want to elaborate?

Hi Trish,

Praying this will be your long awaited answer for pain relief and a return of quality of life.

Before you do that please look up a leaf called Kratom!! It is a wonderful way to control pain Asia works on the same receptors as morphine or opiods. There's a group on facebook called American Kratom Society. Request to become a member and talk to others with your type of pain and how it has helped them. I hope this helps! You don't need the poison they're trying to sell you!!

I think its worth trying Fentanyl - as others have said, what suits one person, doesn't necessarily suit another. The only thing which kills my nerve pain is a mix of Lyrica and opiate meds, nothing else stops it. I really hope Fentanyl works for you and you get some pain relief.

Thank you for your input! I have had PN entrapped rectal nerve for four years and have been living in hell. Have tried everything! I have to give it a shot, but am a little scared. Send me some prayers as it is only faith that gets me through.

DUCKISH--------your entitled to your opinion, but please don't pull me down, its hard enough to make a good decision with all the good people on this site!!! Bless you all.

I pray every day for relief for all of you and your sufferings!

Hugs!

I am not trying to pull you down sweety. I am giving you an option other than the pharmaceutical drugs that are being offered. I'm sorry that I made you feel that way.

I have had adverse reactions to many medications but am still here and trying others and have found ones I can tolerate. The only suggestion I make when others ask about trying a new one is that it is best to try in a morning so you have the daytime to assess any reactions or sensitivity which can after all just be nausea or slight itching they don't have to be major and to have others around you if possible even if it means taking medication package and notes with you and sitting in library or quiet cafe whetre you qptry and quietly relax but not be own in case you need help.I am lucky in the way I have hubby at home to keep an eye on me and try new meds Saturday morning so have weekend to deasl with any side effects.

Take care and hope you find some relief soon

As I read through many of the requests for information from those seeking relief of their pain, from those that also experience it first hand (rather than just those that administer it and often do not go over all of the possible side effects etc.) I often read posts between folks scolding one another. Luckily there seems to be, more often than not, an apology for any misunderstanding.

I think that everyone needs to be aware of a few things when reading and responding to others in a harsh manner:

1). We are all dealing with pain (or someone with pain) and often this can make us short tempered at times

2). Everyone means well, and is for the most part imparting information based on their experiences and everyone needs to be aware of this fact...We are not doctors, we are the PATIENTS, again imparting OUR experiences! These may change from one person to another.

3). The written word sometimes does not translate the best. One person can read something one way and another a completely different way.

I believe we are all trying to do the right thing here. We need more understanding of each other, we have enough of the harsh comments from those outside, who do not understand what we are all truly going through in trying to deal with chronic pain.

P.S. Amongst the posts I read someone had mentioned that Oxycontin was stronger than Fentanyl. However, Fentanyl is actually the strongest family of opiates we have. It is much stronger than oxycontin and percocet (when matched in dosage). But again, everyone reacts differently to meds. I myself have been on the Fentanyl patch for years now, however, I cannot say that it is the most effective for me. Also as mentioned earlier it is often difficult to keep stuck to your body, especially if you perspire a lot.

Wishing you all as little pain as possible!!!!!!!
