spinal fusion
Hello
Have they decided to undertake the procedure ??.
BOB
And how do you feel about it? 76 is no longer classed as old. Will it give you a better quality of life when its healed. If so go for it and enjoy the rest of your retirement.
My mum had a fusion in her early 70's and it definitely did make life a lot better for her for a while. Unfortunately her main problem now is osteoporosis, so further surgery isn't going to help her. She seemed to come through the operation very well, and the nurses were quite concerned that she wasn't using enough pain relief, but she said that the pain of the operation was so much less than the pain prior to it.
It really depends on how it is affecting you now. I could no longer walk any short distance andmy lufe was uoside down (am 52) . I have just had 2 surgeries in 7 weeks - today's was a revision of a failed level- L5. But last week i was walking 2 miles a day. It does hurt but start isometrics on ypur transverse abdominus muscles, quads and obliques immediately and your recovery goes much smoother. These will support you in the early days if you have it. Easily done-just lie there and squeeze muscles. So far my life has been only changed for the better.
