Hi I know just what you are going through , what the doctor gives you for pain relief is not good enough . I have arthritis , in both knees and other parts too . I take Tramadol and a anti inflammatory drug , no use , and when I tell the doctor all he says is up the dosage . If I was you have a word with the practice nurse , they are more switched on and can point you in the right direction . All the best Steve
Thank you, I'll try the practice nurse but not sure if they're allowed to prescribe strong pain killers?
An exercise helped with my back pain, spine roll:
Take it easy and find someone to help you to do what's needed and not
more. I'd hate to see your back get hurt more just by a tiny little wrong
technique. Can you get in with a trainer?

See an Alexander Teacher and McTimony chiropractor.
You have had the problem for 15 years. You have 15 years of bad muscular habit to unlearn and to be replaced by a better muscular habit. An Alexander Teacher can help you improve the way you use muscles.
Alexander Teachers do not undo muscles that are in spasm. This is why you will need someone like a McTimony chiropractor.
You will need to increase your observational skills so that you can learn to pick up complaining muscles earlier in the movement cycle so as to stop and change the muscular movement you are doing. Meditation and mindfulness training is good for this. Meditation_A_Way_of_Awakening_-_Ajahn_Sucitto.pdf is a free download. It is very good at explaining good posture and the meditation and mindfulness practice.
You will need to do your own research into how muscles work. Human Motor Control - David A. Rosenbaum 2nd edition is a good starting point. I have a copy of the first edition which is now out of date. I have read half of the second edition and there is some very useful stuff in there.
Hope this helps
My pain is not muscular..my pelvis split during pregnancy and didn't heal..I also have arthritis in my spine.
A lot of pain is actually caused by muscular activity.
Arthritis is catch all name to describe bone damage. However the pain in arthritis is influenced quite a lot by muscular activity.
Change the muscular activity and you change the pain experienced.
So an Alexander Teacher and McTimony chiropractor will not cure the problem. But it may give a means to reduce the experienced pain by modifying muscular behavior.
Posture and muscular activity is something that the medical profession know very little about.
If you're in the UK get your GP to refer you to your local pain clinic, who use a whole load of different drugs that a GP can't even touch. Pain clinic have a load of other treatments that they can offer.
Thank you, Ive been told that I'm being refeted to the pain clinic..at last, only took them 15 yrs!
