I have suffered with Chronic pain for 7 years, an as most people here know you tolerate it. But 2 things i find hard One is: for the last couple of months i can be fully alert, talking to someone, watching tv or even in the shower and a strong. sudden surge of tiredness over comes me and i fall asleep for split second only to be bought back to reality with a jolt, but the thing that is dangerous is when in shower i actually fall asleep. The second thing is hard to explain, i can be sitting down or laying, then all of a sudden i have to get up and as much as i want to sit or lay down my body wont let me until whatever it is passes but can last an hour or a few, but i end up having to rock or pace roll it goes

Hmm, the sleep thing sounds like fatigue, but could be something else. Can changing the time you have your shower make a difference?

The other thing sounds like your nerves are misfiring. I don't know if they are degenerating or waking up. I had Bowen many years ago, and it released my nerves. I had a few months of strange things happening with my legs mainly while the nerves regenersted.

Worth a visit to the dr to get it checked out, especially the sleep thing, not safe falling asleep in the shower. .

The falling asleap I totally understand. I do it every day and then jump with such a shock as I wake again and as you say it might only be a split second. It is very unnerving. I assume it's a combination of poor sleap and medication. I also find, especially when I first wake up I can't wait to stand up as some of my pain recedes but not a lot.

Hi Shazita, what medication do you take? and when does the sleeping thing happen is it towards the end of the day? I have the exact same thing happens to me almost everyday but mostly towards the end of the day when I have taken my tea time pills, I can fall asleep talking and then awake and carry on the conversation as if nothing has happened. I take 8 co-codamol, 600 mg pregablin and 75 mg amytriptiline, so I think its the build up over the day, so I never drive after teatime pills and I have my bath or shower early too so that I avoid any accidents, I don't go out in the evenings anymore either its just not worth it.

I think if I were you I would go see my GP and discuss your medication and tell him what is happening to see if he can help, maybe if it is that he could change them, I unfortunately seem to be left with the choice of living like this or pain although mostly im still in pain even with taking all these drugs.

good luck.

It happens anytime during the day and can be up to as mamy as four times a day and as for shower, it happens everytime no matter What time.

It almost sounds as if the running water hypnotizes you in some way. Perhaps hypnotherapy could help dispel the problem.

As for me I can fall asleep anytime and anywhere. If I have expended some energy and then sit down Sleep comes at the drop of a hat! I can even put on a favourite or exciting tv progamme and still nod off and the time of day doesn't matter at all. Fortunately I have four dogs that come and wake me up.

how strange never heard of that before, I wish you good luck and hope your GP finds what is causing it. x

I'd get a sleep study done. That is very dangerous. What if you were driving? Hope you find out what's wrong sweetheart!!! Mitzi

I agree with the sleep study as it sounds like you may have sleep apnea, which greatly affects the quality of your sleep and can lead to extreme sleepiness in the daytime.
