I phoned MIA for travel insurance today as I've used them a couple of times in the past. However, I was told they're changing their underwriters and I have to phone back after 21 May. Can anyone recommend another travel insurance company that I could try. Thanks.

You could try phoning the Macmillan financial support line - I've been trying to get some life insurance and they were really helpful in finding companies to try.
I had a holiday in Lanzarote last week and got insurance with JD travel insurance. I also got a quote from AllClear travel insurance. I got both numbers from MacMillan, and just chose JD because they had a regular phone number rather than 0845!
In the end I had to exclude cancer because the quotes ranged from £800 to £1800. I didn't look any further because the process of going through the screening was so upsetting
I spoke to my specialist nurse who advised me that it would be unlikely anything related to cancer would be acute, so it depends on your attitude to risk. She advised me to take with me; pain killers, anti sickness pills and ask the GP for a broad spectrum antibiotic just in case, which he gave me. Also to behave as though I was in a third world country with regard to hygiene, water etc. Because it was only Lanzarote, I figured I could get back home if I needed to.
In the end in hoilday was fine, in fact lovely. It made me wonder why I bothered with insurance at all when they said they would not include anything directly or indirectly related to cancer, so I thought, well, if I break my arm I'm okay, unless I faint because of my general weakness and break my arm!
The important condition related factors were being more than 12 weeks post any operation (which I was) and more than 6 weeks post chemo (which I wasn't).
I hope this helps. Have a lovely holiday

Hi Cathy
I've used MIA travel since April 2010 and found them quite reasonable up to the other companies we've have tried. Must have been lucky because we've just got insurance with them a couple of weeks ago for our holiday in June to Majorca. I think Sue makes a very good point if you are somewhere that's quite easy to get back from I wonder if it's worth the extra cost. Hope you have a great holiday wherever you are going.
Thanks for your replies. I've used MIA a couple of times before and only paid around £55 for a fortnight so I might actually hang on until after 21 May as I don't actually travel until 2 June and hopefully their premiums won't have gone up too much because of the new underwriters. I phoned Insurance With and after answering many, many more questions than MIA they said they'd phone me back with a quote 4 days ago - I'm still waiting I tried another couple of companies but I was unable to get through. I actually feel confident enough to get insurance excluding cancer because I'm not prepared to pay extortinate amounts on the off-chance something will flare up so badly in a couple of weeks that I'd need to be flown home. Also we'd be in a position to get home by ourselves if needed. Thanks again.
I've used insurancewith twice now and they seem very thorough and helpful. They are one of the companies recommended by Macmillan and were set up by a breast cancer sufferer apparently.
