Hello, I am after some travel insurance advice and recommendations. My Mum has Primary Peritoneal Cancer stage 3C. Now inoperable with adhesions on her bowel spleen stomach. She is fit and well and has been given the all clear to travel to the USA by her Oncologist. However the travel insurance companies we have contacted have contacted their medical underwriters and have refused to insure her for the PPC. She has an annual travel insurance policy that covers her for everything else. Have any of you lovely ladies managed to get any cover for you Ovarian cancer PPC and if so which companies have you used? I’m beginning to lose patience with spending hours completing the forms verbally over the phone only to be told it has to go to the underwriters who then take ages to contact me and outright refuse to provide cover. We don’t care how much it costs. We travel soon and waited for the oncologist appointment to get the all clear to travel before contacting the travel insurance companies....

Have you tried Insurance With? I used them for Florida earlier this year and they covered me despite not being 100% clear and still receiving Avastin every three weeks. It was £142 for the highest level of cover for two weeks.

I've used both of the above and Boots. I didn't make a claim but they were all good. Xx

I too have used insurance within more than one occasion to go to USA, they’re really thorough, ask relevant questions and give a really high level of cover for reasonable prices. Good luck ❤️Xx Jane

On the advice of someone on this site I joined the WI. Once a member, in their magazine you will find an insurance company that gives annual travel insurance for £235. All you have to say is a) your doctor says you are fit to travel at the time of booking, b) you’re fit to travel when you depart and c) you haven’t had a terminal diagnosis (defined as less than 12 months). So much easier than all the questions I normally got. Xx

I also was stage 3C and on chemo when I got my insurance with Nationwide. It was £20 for the year to cover myself and my husband. When I got a blockage I increased my cover to cover my 'condition' which was just over £80 a year worldwide for the 2 of us. Hope this helps. xx

Thank you all so much for your help. I have been in touch with MIA, Insurewith, Allclear And many others and NONE of them have been able to offer insurance despite the best efforts of the underwriters. I don’t understand why. She is on fentanyl patches but this is mainly for a chronic long term back pain, her PPC was operated on but they couldn’t remove the omentum as it was attached to the bowel, spleen and stomach - which they regard as ’spread’. She’s is termed as incurable but not terminal. We have a letter from the oncologist saying she is fit and well enough to travel. I really don’t understand why they feel she is such a risk and won’t cover her as she is healthier than before her diagnosis!

You could look here : visitorscoverage.com/ . These are US insurance policies, so will not offer you cancellation cover and maybe not repatriation, but they look as if they would cover medical emergencies.
