ovarian cysts

Hi everyone. I’m new here and hope it’s ok to post my particular circumstances to see if anyone here has any advice or insights they can share?

I am 54 years old and (think) I am post menopausal as being taking HRT for last 4 years. I have 4 cysts on my R ovary and 3 on my L ovary - I’ve had 4 monthly scans (intravaginal) for a year to watch for any changes but they remain “simple” cysts and my CA125 blood test is normal. One gynaecologist said I should have my ovaries removed in case the cysts become cancerous in the future and another has said I shouldn’t remove them? Has anyone else have similar experience - I don’t know what to do for the best?

Hi Daintee. It's a big decision to make to remove your ovaries but as you are continuing to have cysts on your ovaries, I would get them removed, especially if a surgeon recommended that you do. I only say this as it was only when I had a hysterectomy that they discovered a cyst on my left ovary had mutated and it turned out to be a rare form of germ cell cancer which is not curable. I hope you can make the decision that is right for you. Wishing you all the best xx

I agree with Swimbuddy. At this young age, better out than in. Many of us would probably go back and have them removed esp those of us who have had endometriosis, fibroids, more cysts over the years. However, you need to weigh your own situation against your circumstances. By the way, when you say they have done scans to look at the ovaries, do you mean cat scans? And the gyns who are giving you advice- are they oncogyns? I would be inclined to be advised by top oncogyns who are in the field of treating gyn cancers at a top institution, or at least regularly. They should be up on research, but usually you see this pattern and I think it leads to suggesting removing rather than “watching,” esp as gyn cancers are not that easy to detect and you are past childbearing age. Right? Have you reached out to Ovacome team for assistance on this question? Wishing you much luck and good guidance. ❤️

I would probably opt to have a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. OVCA is very quiet and sneaky.
