Fevers

My mum has been fighting this disease since 2016. At diagnosis she was high grade OC stage 3c. After initial surgery and chemo she was in remission for 5 years but unfortunately the beast returned in 2021 and since then she has been under constant treatment.

Her last scan a few months back showed progression with mets on the liver growing in size. She is currently on Alimta (pemetrexid) and has pain in her shoulders and upper back that comes and goes. Chest X rays show all clear. Also since starting this chemo she has on and off fever and lots of weakness. Her blood results at times normal and sometimes she has elevated white blood cells for which she is prescribed antibiotics. Her doctors believe the fevers are a side effect of the chemotherapy.

Has anyone experienced this? It’s heartbreaking to see her in this situation.

Hi ShamilaS

I do suffer with chills and slightly elevated temp during chemo. Usually a couple of paracetamol settles it down. If her temperature is high then her oncology team should be taking steps to consider what’s going on. I would push them to try to resolve this so that she has better quality of life. They don’t experience what we go through on chemo and sometimes it is good to remind them that ‘a few side effects’ can seriously impact the patients well being xx

Thanks Lyndy. She is seeing her oncologist tomorrow. On days she has a temperature she gets really upset as she anticipates the worse case. I’m hoping the doctor can reassure her.

Thanks for responding. I will read your message to her❤️

Hi, I'm so sorry and sad for your mum. The chemo I'm currently on the side affects do list fever and chills. I have had hot flashes but no fevers yet. Pray she may feel better soon.
