suspected blocked bowel
Sorry to hear that you have been so unwell. I would ask to be seen by a dietitian from your team so that they can give you the best advice for you and your circumstances xx
Hi, This has happened to me 3 times, and I was told it was probably due to adhesions. I noticed that each time I had an episode I had eaten high fibre foods. The best information you will find is on this site, it is a diet sheet for people with bowel blockage, though I always have trouble finding it. I hope one of the moderators can help. I now avoid fibrous foods like sweetcorn, potato skins, broccoli stalks, and I eat most vegetables in the form of soups. I haven’t had symptoms of blockage for several months now. Happy to keep in touch x
I would be interested in this diet sheet. Am in hospital at moment with suspected bowel blockage
Good morning Char5
Thank you for your reply. I'm really sorry to hear that you've been unwell and are now in hospital. I hope that the clinical team are able to resolve this issue quickly and that you feel much better soon.
I believe the resource that meadowgirl may be referring to is Ovacome's information booklet titled 'Diet for a blocked bowel'. This can be found here on our website: ovacome.org.uk/blocked-bowe... . Or we can post a copy to you, free of charge if you prefer?
I hope this information is useful. The booklet highlights 'This sort of diet may not be suitable for you. If you are not sure whether this applies to you, please check with your doctor or specialist cancer dietitian'. We would be happy to help you plan or prepare for any upcoming conversations, if you think this could be helpful?
We are here to support you so please don't hesitate to get in touch with us if there's anything we may be able to help with. You can message us here on the forum, email support@ovacome.org.uk or call our Freephone support line on 0800 008 7054. We're here Monday - Friday, 10am - 5pm, to help with questions, provide information resources or just have a chat about anything that's on your mind.
Best wishes

I usually take prunes from tin or dry one. Figs are good and loads of salad with olive oil. Salmon is very oily and good. Hope this help xx
This is happening to me so many times, crushiating abdominal pains,ct scan done 3 days ago all clear but before ct scan a week before my family practice recommended a low fodmat diet ,I started right away and ibgard capsules, is being helping me,being going twice a day to the bathroom and the pain has melow down...Lynparza have those effects on the body and chemo does too..talk to your dr..they do understand and will help you ...no pain pills just natural
I. Am an expert in bowel blockages and ended up in hospital several times .I have a colostomy due to ovarian cancer and have developed adhesions. One doctor recommended a low residue diet which is essentially beige!I follow it but not rigidly as it seems odd not to eat much fruit and veg.I also take Laxido regularily which keeps things moving along and when I get pain I immediately take more Laxido and have what I call a soup day , only liquids and maybe yoghurt .This has kept me out of hospital but I can’t enjoy food as much as I used to. Low residue diet available on line.
I’m in the same position, I’m on a low residue diet for life, I contacted Ovacome and they kindly sent me a diet information sheet, I have also been in touch with a dietician thru my doctor who has helped enormously. I e been hospitalised twice due to scar tissue and it’s very scary, sticking to low fibre diet is the only way for me to avoid problems in the future. I hope you can get some help
