Wound Management

Hello.

I posted a while ago re my laparotomy wound breakdown and got a lot of good advice. After minimal progress I got a PICO vacuum dressing - a lot of reluctance which may have been cost rather than clinical criteria. The difference it has made is incredible. In 4 days the deficit has decreased in volume by about 30%.

If you have a wound breakdown I would encourage you to discuss a VAC type dressing with the tissue viability team.

Fingers crossed it continues and I may be able to go for a swim one day soon.

Hi Motiva , it’s great to hear that you’re on the mend more quickly than you would otherwise have been - another example of persistence paying off .

I hope you do get to go for a swim soon , I had a port fitted as opposed to a Picc line for that reason .

I think we may have met at them Newcastle meet up recently?

Hi F that is so good to hear, your wound healing. Have you been able to continue your chemo or was it on hold? Hoping you’re over the worst now and keep making progress. Hugs xx Pauline

Hi Pauline,

Luckily I was able to have two parts- carbo/paxlitaxel but missed the bevacizumab. So happy to nearly be at the end of it. Hope you are feeling good.

Yes will restart it when healing complete as a solo infusion. Do you feel fine taking it without the other drugs?

I do , yes . I have the infusion every 3 weeks as I suppose most people do and take Olaparib daily .

I feel more tired than I have ever done previously but I don’t feel ill after the infusions . I was pleasantly surprised, as I felt poorly for quite a few days after having Carboplatin ( I was allergic to Pacltaxyl)

I hope you cope with it well also , when the healing is complete .
