Has anyone had their clips removed and had an area of wound come apart. This happened to me today and I'm now on daily doc visits. I'm disappointed that scar healing will delay chemo and I might end up with a less neat scar. What if it doesnt heal? Generally just worried because brain over analyses anything these day.

Hi Gleedy, that happened me after a partial hysterectomy and I had to get antibiotics and also daily dressings. It petered down to every second day then twice a week and finally changed them myself. If I remember rightly some one also had same problem and was starting chemo and I dont think it affected the scar, In my case the first time was borderline so didnt have to worry about chemo. Second time around looked for antibiotic cover to prevent recurrence of wound problem and that sorted it,
Yes happened to me dident stop me having normal chemo but did stop avastin unfortunately it took mine about three month to heal so break was too long to continue with avastin but scar as healed fine x
It happened to me as had a lot of mini staples. It's in my blog, the trauma. I went to a&e the doctor added two stitches and all was fine, it's healed lovely.
Thank you ladies. I had 60 mini staples. The nurse has put something on it that she said is great for pulling wounds together. It was a white mesh then covered whole area with a dressing. I went a day early because I could see some staples were so embedded and pus forming. Well thank you for your reassurance. Next appt tomorrow morning. X
Sounds awful. The thought fills me with dread as I undergo debulking surgery on the 21st, in Dubai where it was 46C yesterday and despite being in the air con one gets sticky. Sticky and stitches or clips don't gel well.
Thank you. It will be the compression tights that will affect you in the heat. You will be surprised how you cope and accept whatever is thrown at you. Keep strong xx
Rats! I'd forgotten about the compression tights! Thanks for the positivity. Xxx
I've just bought some loose cotton trousers. Can you imagine going out in then with shorts. I'd look like a boy scout. That's a look I could rock. Haha x
After my first open surgery, the wound opened and got infected.
It was gross, and it took a while to heal... But it DID heal.
I have a patch on the scar line that's about an inch across... but honestly it doesn't stand out that badly.
Ask your doctors if it's possible to keep it covered with a compeed dressing until it's healed. It makes it much easier to manage.
With my second open surgery I had a compeed dressing on it for the full 14 days (Changed 3 times) because I just couldn't bear to have it uncovered. It healed amazingly well.
I cannot offer any words of wisdom as I never had an op so all I can offer are good wishes for speedy healing of your wound. The other replies are very encouraging. Take care

Hi Gleedy I am glad to find the wound it trying up so hopefully you are over the worst, as I have said it did happen to me. I actually invested in cami tops to wear inside the tee shirts so that the dressing wouldnt be noticeable and also the scar, now there is a tip for you, wishing you well
Thank you. I will do that. I had the last two staples out Friday and didn't whizz round the room like a balloon. Lol and steri strips put in. So pleased that nurse cancelled the district nurse for the weekend and back to her tomorrow. I can't see how it's doing as it's all covered but the rest of the scar is bloody itchy. Hope your weekend was good xx
Hi
My wound opens up the day after staples out. I have 3 holes. I'm 5 weeks post surgery and still having nurse every other day. It is so annoying. I have seen the oncologist and can't start chemo until it's healed. He thinks another 3 weeks.
It's so frustrating as restricts movement. And I just want to get on with chemo as worried cells may start again.
That is very annoying. My scar responded very well to a special 'skin' the nurse placed on the hole and it really pulled the edges together. I had the nurse for 7 days and I've been incredibly lucky because it seems to have done the job along with a course of antibiotics. However the whole Scar is very sore. The surgeon said yesterday at my follow up appt. 'Oh yes we did open you up!' I haven't be told this before but part of the reason for no lifting is that it is easy to form hernias Round the scar. Strangely my oncologist didn't ask to see the scar but has booked me in for start of chemo on 6th July. I hope your wound starts to properly heal soon. Well all seem to get a delay of some sort. Good luck. Tracey xx
