Hi Ladies have any of you managed to find a travel insurance policy after completing treatment. Despite successful debulking surgery for stage 1C so am now clear I am not managing to get a quote. Want to get back to living life to the full including trips so any advice would be great.

Hi, I'm pleased everything going well for you. I managed to get free insurance with Nationwide with one of their accounts. It didn't cover anything connected to the cancer but was covered for everything else for a year. x

Thanks ZenaJ. We too have nationwide but am a little anxious if I have any health issue which they can attribute to scar tissue/adhesions etc while abroad then insurance will say its related to the cancer op and not cover us so to.be on safe side I will take an additional health cover policy for the next 12 months. Nationwide did however say they wold be covering our Vietnam trip later this year as it had been booked before my diagnosis so that's something at least.

Hi Holly, would they not let you pay a small few to cover your condition? I remember I was still on chemo when we booked for Oman and managed to sort something out. Of course that was 10 years ago and things change. xx

Try insurance with but on the phone not on line. You can get the price down by using your house contents policy as well, if applicable. Also worth contacting are Saga if you are 50 plus.

hi jolly

I just got normal travel insurance it doesn’t include anything to do with cancer but as I’m heeled I’m also healed from debulking and have Ned so wouldn’t be sick on holiday due to that anyway. It’s a lot cheaper but means your covered for injuries which is more likely.

Hope that helps x

Hi, I get mine from insurancewith.com who seem pretty reasonable to me, and I have always just used their online quotes. (I'm stage 4 so you should be cheaper than me!) Make sure you get a quote when you're not waiting for any test results etc as that really puts the price up xx

Hi. I ‘m in a similar situation. I just use the insurance provided by my bank. I think that the likelihood of any health issues on holiday being related to my debulking operation are slim or cancer related are slim.

I would suggest that you ring a specialist insurer and talk to them about your situation. I use MIA who select the best 5 for me to consider.

I tried the online questionnaire but found it really didn’t fit with where I am.

Although it is tempting to go uninsured in this situation, the big fear is medical repatriation which does cost £!!!!

Unfortunately for us many medical emergencies can be attributed to our diagnosis and treatment without an obvious link. I am sure if I had a stroke on holiday they would try to say it was to do with the treatment I have had.

Best to be up front and safe if you can. xx

My thoughts exactly Lyndy, as a nurse I am all too aware of how many abdo issues could be seen by insurers as related to adhesions from the op so will be taking a policy as don't fancy the repateiation bill.

Good morning Jholly4

Thank you for your post. I can see that some members of the forum community have shared their experiences about travel insurance with you which I hope has been useful.

I wanted to let you know that Ovacome have an information booklet about travelling abroad, with a specific section about travel insurance. Whilst we don’t recommend a particular company or policy, this booklet includes a list of companies that our members have found useful in the past. You can find the booklet here on our website: ovacome.org.uk/travelling-a... - Just let us know if you would prefer a copy of this to be sent to you in the post instead, free of charge.

In addition, Ovacome's magazine in Summer 2022 focussed on travelling abroad, with some details about finding travel insurance after a diagnosis of ovarian cancer - direct from our members. I hope this may be of interest. To view our magazine, please visit: ovacome.org.uk/ovacome-maga...

I hope this information is helpful and that you will find a reasonable quote for a policy to suit your own individual needs very soon.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you’ve got any further questions or would like to talk things through with a member of the Ovacome support team. You can call us on 0800 008 7054, email support@ovacome.org.uk or message us directly through this forum if you prefer. We’re here Monday – Friday, 10am – 5pm.

Best wishes
