I have just joined this group and am now 3 months not working, only going out for medical appointments very little else. I have chemo in a couple of days then 3 weeks before surgery so I am wanting to give my days more focus/ purpose so wondered if anyone has any ideas how to do this? Thank you

Hi Tallulah55

My solution was to start writing a novel! But I would choose something you enjoy and don’t want to lose.

Weirdly I have also enjoyed doing odd days freelance and meeting up with colleagues because the last thing you want to be is a full time patient! xx

Hi Tallulah55

My pre and post operative periods were December to March. I prepared and froze meals for after my operation. I did an on-line course related to work, read novels, knitted a sweater and kept a detailed diary. Do something you find fun or potentially productive. At this time of year, I’d do some gardening. Maybe arrange something for the summer, such as a day out with family or friends so you have something to look forward to. I found it important to have non-medical appointments in my diary. I quite enjoyed the time off work and planning for the future.

Hiya. Medical appointments fills diary don't they. We seem to become full time to keep appointments 😅 when I didn't have appointments, I used to go and see my friends for lunch, they used to give me lifts. During the lockdowns, I did lots of zoom classes, picking some cheap deals😄 I now offer a yoga for cancer patients and survivors via zoom, if you would like to join us? It's free😊 I have a off road wheel chair, my partner takes me out for walks and he pushes me around these days. I do write blogs about where I have been, my cancer journey etc. These also fill my days. I also attend zoom courses to brush up skills. Like other people say, fill your days with what you want to do or wanted to do before but couldn't before? I agree to others, it's important to have non medical appointments 😊🙏💕🌻

Hi, I joined Ancestry and did my family tree, I find it fascinating trying to find lost members of my family, I also did a DNA test and connected to family in Australia, America, Canada that I never knew existed. Do what ever you find interesting reading, writing, crafts, volunteering at old peoples home or local school just reading to them is a great help.

hi Tallulah

I kept working and getting out and doing things

I’m stage 4 same age group

Staying home only made me depressed

If you can’t work maybe volunteer ?

Keep busy doing things not always related to cancer

That’s my advice

all the best Margaret

hi! Welcome to this group! It’s been so valuable to me the last 7 years with support, sharing of knowledge and tips and friendship with others who share a concern.

I was still working an at - home freelance job until my third chemo when I got replaced with someone without cancer, even tho I was fulfilling my duties without a hiccup.

So I started painting! I am a graphic designer on the computer so even tho I have an art background painting a picture on canvas is so different! I still enjoy it even tho I’m not in treatment anymore.

It’s an inexpensive hobby especially if you know how to mix colors so only tubes of acrylic primary colors and canvases and brushes need to be invested in. And I use pie pans and little plastic cups to mix paint in.

You don’t even need a subject to paint! Just put brush to canvas and let it go! It will evolve as your interest does.

I wish you luck! Chemo sucks! Hugs, Jill

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply to me. One thing I should have said is am generally quite immobile during all this time so going back to work, volunteering etc is not an option. I really hope I can find an online course that is fulfilling during such an empty time with all routines gone. I don’t have a garden and do try to see friends at home but everyone has their lives to lead of course. Thanks agin!
