Hi!
I had ovarian cancer in 2002 and when I retired I decided to volunteer with helping to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms, and I volunteer, helping out with the local support group. It’s called COPES and, if you’re interested, you can look us up online.
If you’re in our area (and we have members from Colchester in the North to London in the East), you’re welcome to get in touch.
We run a free monthly coffee morning support group, alternating between the hospital women’s clinic and a local social club. We usually have a CNS in attendance when we’re in the hospital. We are very light hearted, except when someone has something serious to discuss. We do awareness raising talks for local groups and we also run all sorts of treats for our members and we work really closely with the hospitals Gynae Oncology teams, for Southend and Basildon hospitals. We meet quarterly with the medical teams and they support us in all our work. We have raised money for extras for the hospital teams…equipment, resources and comfort treats for patients.
If you’re in the area, or fancy finding out more, do drop me a message.
Our new members always remark how welcoming and relaxed we are. The whole group support each other, all being aware of what it’s like to be newly diagnosed or to have a recurrence.
Love,
Wendy xx
