Olaparib and hair dye

Hi ladies, I hope you'll forgive a slightly frivolous question but I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on using hair dyes/highlights etc while on olaparib? I'm hoping to get my hair highlighted next time I go to the hairdresser as my hair has grown back much darker after finishing chemo in May last year and I don't feel like myself when I look in the mirror! But as olaparib is a type of chemo, I'm a bit wary of strong chemicals in case my hair is still not at full strength!

Does anybody taking olaparib use hair dye or highlights on a regular basis to reassure me please?! Thank you lovely ladies 😊

why not do a patch test first? I don’t think your hair will mind but Olaparib can make your skin a little sensitive xx

I have always had my hair dyed by my hairdresser whilst taking Olaparib.( since June 2020)

I usually have 6/7 weekly appointments. It has never been an issue. My hairdresser said my hair is in really good condition.Good Luck x

My understanding that highlights don't touch roots according to my coiffure who has number of cancer clients Dyes are out however. Good luck.

I have my hair dyed every month, with no problems. I have been on Olaparib for 2 years. Enjoy your hair appointment x

I’ve been highlighting during 3 years on Olaparib , no problems . In fact my hair seems to grow thicker and faster !

Enjoy I think!

Dear Kjpip,

Thank you for sharing your post about hair colouring. I can see that some of our members have shared some advice and support, I hope these have been helpful for you.

I have shared a link below from a blog post that was shared on our forum in November 2019. The 5th paragraph shares some information and advice around colouring hair, if you would find this useful.

I have also included another link below to the Cancer Hair Care charity where they share some advice and information on colouring new hair growth.

If you feel concerned about chemicals, you could also try with a vegan product...there are a few good ones around the market now...it all depends on your body's reaction...each of us different. Good luck!!!👩‍🦰👩👩‍🦱🧑‍🦰🥰🙏
