can I have micro blading whilst on Avastin and Olaparib?

dear ladies, I have stage 4 OC and having completed 7 cycles chemo in November and debulking surgery in September am now on Avastin and Olaparib since December. Hair is starting to grow back and eyebrows still quite scrappy! I know that when recursnce happens I’ll be back on chemo so feel this is my window of opportunity to get some eyebrows !

please does anyone have any experience or advice on this? Currently feeling really well.

Hi Belinda,I've had two recurrences so three sets of chemo since stage 4 OC diagnosis in January 2020.

My hair and eyebrows only fell out with the first treatment because they used different chemo meds each time.

So there is a good chance that yours will grow back and stay, and hopefully if you have recurrences they will be further apart than mine, but if micro blading makes you feel good then do it anyway.

Best of luck, Martine xxx

I'd be careful with microblading as there has to be a timescale between chemo and microblading. There's a pen you can buy off amazon that I've seen ppl use if that helps why you are waiting x

if the doc says no problem, then do it. Looking better makes us feel better. No matter how ill i feel, I try to make it to my haircuts. It’s therapeutic. 🙏

I had them done prior to recurance treatment. They need to be touched up occasionally and if doing Keytruda will start to fade.

Hi there Belindajw

Thank you for your post and question about microblading. I can see you've had several responses from the forum community sharing their experiences which I hope have been helpful.

As Leniko has mentioned, it's important to discuss your query to your clinical team, so they can advise whether microblading is safe for you at this time, considering your individual treatment and medical history.

Cancer Hair Care are the UK’s leading cancer related hair loss support charity and they have some information on their website that I thought may be of interest: cancerhaircare.co.uk/eyebrows/ and cancerhaircare.co.uk/semi-p... - They explain that:

'At the time of writing, our guidance [on microblading] is the following:

- You are always best advised to ask your medical team if there is any ‘medical’ reason why you can’t go ahead and have semi permanent make-up/microblading

- You should look for a reputable and experienced cosmetic practitioner and ensure you have the relevant ‘sensitivity’ tests

- Ask to see examples – all reputable practitioners will have a portfolio of examples

- Think through the timings of procedures – plan

- Seek a balanced view – look at the NHS cosmetic procedures guide'

Cancer Hair Care also have a phone line whereby you can speak with a Cancer Hair Care Advisor or Specialist. More details about getting in touch with them can be found on their website here: cancerhaircare.co.uk/suppor...

In addition, Look Good Feel Better are a national charity aiming to boost the physical and emotional wellbeing of people living with cancer. They offer online workshops and I thought you may be interested in their programme dedicated to hair, giving advice about eyelashes and brows. For more information, please visit: lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk/su... . They also have a range of tutorials, with one focused on recreating missing eyebrows: lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk/tu... .

I hope this is useful and you're able to create the eyebrow style you're seeking. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 0800 008 7054 if you would like to talk through anything. We’re here Monday – Friday, 10am – 5pm.

Best wishes

Annie
