Hello ladies. I was to have chemotherapy yesterday. Unfortunately, my creatinine level was up from 1.11 to 1.68. Also, filtration should be above 60. Mine dropped to 32. An ultrasound has been scheduled on February 16, and I see my oncologist the following day. Usually on the six-hour drive from New Orleans to Houston, I make a couple of potty stops. I didn’t feel the urge to urinate for six hours on this trip. Although, I wasn’t given chemo, a one liter bag of fluid was ordered. After 70% was administered, I suddenly had trouble breathing. It was scary and I pressed the button for the nurse. My blood pressure had jumped up. The nurse stopped the fluids and gave me oxygen. Also, the chemo nurse called my doctor from my room and he said not to continue fluids. After a while, my blood pressure went down, they discontinued the oxygen and I was able to return to my hotel. Has anyone been able to resolve kidney issues? If so, how? I’ve had issues with itchy skin lately, which can be a sign of kidney disease.
Best to all,
Sashay

Hi Sashay. I don’t have similar experience but I wanted to send support. It must have been frustrating and scary to go all the way to Houston and not get chemo and now worry about your kidneys. Hopefully with some time between chemos your kidneys can recover but it sounds like they couldn’t handle the fluids yesterday. Once they’re not working at full capacity drinking a lot of water is not necessarily good. I hope your oncologist has plans to deal with this! Xx
Thanks, Delia. I’m going to make an appointment with a nephrologist this week. I imagine s/he will order additional tests. I do hope biopsy is NOT one of the tests. 🤞🏽
My daughter is a nephrologist and I knew w it’s a very complex specialty but I think they do a lot of analysis through blood tests and possibly X-rays to start. I hope you can get in quickly!
Hi Sashay. I had kidney issues after my second debulking. My urethra was nicked and I had a stent put in. My kidney swelled up and the stent was removed and a nephrostomy put in. It was a nuisance having a wee bag but after 6 months the kidneys settled down and the nephrostomy removed. I am monitored via Reno gram every 6 months but all is well. I hope they sort you out without you having the tube, but if you do need one it is manageable. Having said all that we are all different so yours may be dealt with in a completely different way. Good luck. Stay strong.
Thank you for this information, JustKBO. The first thing that came to mind was dialysis. There is a great deal that I do not know! I definitely need to see a specialist.
I have only one kidney, with a creatine level hovering around 1.1-1.2, and was given chemo three times between August 2020 and January 2021. I didn't experience any problems with my kidney function. But I would become extremely weak about three days after each infusion and it would last for a few days. Also all food tasted like cardboard during the chemo period and even afterwards. I lost about 40 pounds. You might want to see a doctor who can address your kidney issues -- ie a nephrologist. Fortunately in my case, the oncologist who oversaw my chemo was the doctor who I was seeing regularly for my kidney cancer since 2014.
Oh, I see, your doctor was able to address your cancer and your kidney issues. Glad you made it through treatment okay. I am researching nephrologist now. I will check with my palliative care nurse. She probably knows someone good. Thank you kindly for responding.
I'm so sorry this new stumbling block has appeared. I don't have any personal experience, but I'll be thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way. I hope your nephrologist will be able to figure out the problem so that you can resume your chemo soon. Take care.
Good to hear from you, Lani. I hope you are feeling well. I think I will be able to see a nephrologist this week. This is one of the bumps in the road that we all face at one time of another. I have decided to pick myself up, brush off the dust, and do what I can to carry on. It certainly helps having the support of you and my other teal sisters in this fight. Thank you, Lani, and may 2023 be good to thee.
