Worried daughter needing some positive stories

Hi everyone, I’m new here. My mum has recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer that has spread to her omentum. It’s high grade serous. I’m going out of my mind with worry, this has come as such a shock, so far she has had 4 chemo sessions and her CA-125 marker was down to 31 after 3 sessions. I was hoping to hear some positive stories of hope. We are currently waiting to find out when surgery will be and she has an appointment to chat with the surgeons on the 25th if this month.

Hi, I am sorry to here that your mum has been diagnosed with cancer, and of course it is always a shock.Although this is high grade serous, this is very common. I was diagnosed in 2015, & I have had 2 recurrences, the first after nearly 5 years which showed quite a lot on my omentum second recurrence 2022, so a 3rd lot of chemo. I am still fit even though I am am almost 78. This is an excellent site for info. & I am sure you will receive more replies. Fortunately there are always new treatments and trials coming out.I wish your mum well for the future. x

hello Shorty

I was diagnosed with high grade serous stage 3b in January 2013 so 9 years ago as of now. I am currently well and on no treatment but there have been a couple of bumps in the road. There is still a lot of out of date information out there and google is probably your worst enemy! There are lots of new treatments out there and new ones each year. I had chemo and the full surgery at the beginning of my journey too.

I don’t follow any special or restricted diet and i still have a drink of alcohol. My personal beliefs are that a positive attitude helps, try and keep physically fit and enjoy life as much as you can. The rest of it is definitely luck some people do well and others dont and it’s never because of anything they do right or wrong xx.

So take one day at a time be a support (which it sounds as though you are) and dont put any pressure on yourselves, see what the plan of action is on the 25th. Its going to be a long journey xx

Lots of love

Diane

Hi Diane,

I really appreciate your positive comment, as you can imagine my mind is in overdrive right now and I can’t stop searching Google, which makes for scary reading, so you have really given me hope. I appreciate the reassurance that treatment has moved on and is improving all the time. You don’t know how much it means to hear from someone who has been through it all and is still doing well.

Best wishes to you,

Katie Xx

that’s rough news to digest. The reduction in CA125 is very good news. Hopefully, surgery will remove her omentum and reproductive parts. Praying for you both.

Hi, I was diagnosed stage 3b OC HGS in Oct 2007 and despite being given a couple of years I’m still here despite 2 recurrences and 3 trial drugs. Currently over 9 years remission albeit on a trial for over 9 years on Olaparib x
