Hi unfortunately my mum is now going thru her 2nd occurrence to be fair it's never really went away in the last year and a half she was getting chemo and avastin there for 3 months it brought her count from 600 to 217 but last week it crept up to 233 and scan showed subtle change in her stomach lining couple of small new areas so oncologist decided to stop the chemo they have given her 3 options more chemo in tablet form hormone blockers as her cancer apparently fed off her estogren which we only just found out and possibly a trial my mum is gutted as she really thought this was working but at least she has options anyone in the same boat just looking for a bit of reassurance really!

Hi. It’s hard to understand the exact situation without more detail. Does your mum have high grade or low grade OC? Is a PARP inhibitor one of the options? With so many choices I would strongly suggest a second opinion from a top cancer center. It sounds like they may consider her platinum resistant now? If so a trial might be the best option but you have to meet the requirements. I hope she gets the right treatment to help her. Xx
Bless you, it is always a shock and a worry when a recurrence takes place but it is manageable.
One more test thrown at your mum and another bridge to cross. This type of cancer will never go away and we have to learn to live with it and to deal with it as a chronic condition.
The one new and important evidence that you now have is that your mum's cancer can feed off oestrogen.
The decision for the proposed options although personal, perhaps best to go over them with the oncologist, once more, so to ascertain the benefits of each as well as the side effects. The quality of life is most important in the fight.
Clinical trials can be very promising and absolutely worthy a try within certain conditions. However, similar to the treatments what might work in one condition can give disappointing results for others. All fingers crossed and let's hope and pray that the next stage of your mum's treatment will give her all the desired outcomes.
If in doubt, a second opinion could be an option to consider.
How did you find out about the oestrogen? I think mine might be the same. Seem to be resistant as well.
I honk they test for that after surgery as part of the immunohistological studies they do on the tumor.
