Travel insurance for Cancer Patient’s

I am 6 months in remission from having stage 3 ovarian cancer after having a hysterectomy and 6 rounds of chemo. I am now taking Niraparib for the next two years to hopefully prevent the cancer from returning. I have booked to go to Canada to visit family and looking at travel insurance I am being quoted high prices online. The criteria you have to complete for cancer conditions doesn't quite fit my circumstances. Has anyone else experienced this? I guess it is better for me to find insurance over the phone, I wondered if anyone can recommend a insurance company.

Hi Jane, I got mine with my bank. I have a Nationwide account and have free worldwide insurance with them. I had to pay £86 extra to cover illness, 8 years ago but my original cancer wasn't included. After 5 years free of cancer I didn't have to pay any excess. Good luck with finding something and I'm very happy for you being cancer free for your 6 months free. Love Zena

Thanks for your reply Zena - Looking at other peoples posts a lot seem to recommend a company called Insure With so I am going to give them a call tomorrow. X

I am looking for travel insurance but have found that there is no inbetween I ha e borderline ovarian Tumour which has all been removed so not benign and not cancer but treated as cancer. I have spoken with insure with and stay sure in the UK most are £600 + for annual worldwide insurance policies which cover trips up to 50 days. Unfortunately I was hoping to visit family in Australua for 90 days do would have to do single trip which costs about double. Will keep searching maybe someone with borderline ovarian stage 3 low grade can advise should I say benign or cancer as it is neither!!Hope this helps with you finding suitable travel medical insurance.

Wishing you all the best Lynne x

Hi Jane, I've been living with ovarian cancer for over 7 years and recently finished chemo for a recurrence. I'm now on niraparib. I've just got an annual policy for travel within Europe with Holiday Safe, for £134 which I thought was very reasonable and I did it all online. I have insured with this company for several years before Covid stopped travel! I'm 74, so premiums tend to be higher than for younger people. Definitely worth trying them. Good luck and have a fabulous time in Canada 🇨🇦 xxholidaysafe.co.uk/ppc-trave...

I have been quoted very reasonable rates without the cancer cover.I know some people are happy with this but when talking with my oncologist she said never go without a full insurance as she had know patients who had lost everything ,especially in the States where medical cover is so expensive.I have often used Insure With and always done this over the phone.I have sometimes used All Clear as well.Good luck with this and have a great tr6ip x

I am considering a cruise from Dover and wonder if I did fall ill whilst away I would be OK for medical treatment without insurance, as its a British registered ship

Perhaps ask the cruise line. I doubt it e.g.if you had cancer trouble and needed specialist cancer doctor you might need to be an out/inpatient in nearest foreign hospital. Have a lovely holiday and trust you will be fine.

Hi, holidays, if possible, are so very important after the roller coaster of our disease.

I personally don’t travel without insurance as we just never know what could happen, it’s just peace of mind for me. I’ve used ‘insurance with’ on a few occasions, however, until recently, they weren’t covering the U.K. due to Brexit but happily they’re now covering us again. They’re really very good, their questions are pertinent to our disease and really easy to use and relatively inexpensive. Because they weren’t covering the U.K. I booked with ‘stay sure’ for a holiday to New York, sadly we couldn’t go because we failed a Covid test at the airport 😫😵‍💫, we had cover for both my cancer (8 years in remission) and Covid. Stay sure advertise a 21 day turnaround but in reality they are really dragging their heels even on deciding whether or not they’re going to pay out and having now passed our claim onto two different brokers who only answer enquiries with we’ll make a decision on 5 days, we’re now 6 weeks on 🤬 so I certainly wouldn’t use them again if this is anything to go by. Personal choice I know but I only have the experience of their performance. We had to make a claim a few years ago with ‘insurance with’ and it was really simple. Hope you get the cover you need and are able to have a really deserved holiday ❤️Xx Jane

Insurance With for me, booked online. Form takes an age to fill out, but premiums no where near as high as other pre-medical condition insurances. So get comfy get a drink your medical details and medication info and get form filling. I’m stage 3, low grade ovarian, finished 3rd line treatment in December (incurable). Have been to Gran Canaria for a week in March and Madeira for 5 days in April. Happy holidays and family time , enjoy 😁☀️🍹x

I would like to thank everyone for your recommendations and Insure With managed to sort me out for myself and partner for £300 opposed to other quotes I got which were over £2000.
