Recurrent Ovarian Cancer

My mom's ovarian cancer was diagnosed in 2018 May. She had ascites at that time (CA125 - 3600+). Doctor gave her 3 rounds of chemotherapy Paclitaxol+carboplatin, followed by cytoreductive surgery (removed Uterus, Fallopian tubes, ovaries and some lymph nodes), she was diagnosed with "high grade serous carcinoma of ovary", but the surgeon said it was an optimal surgery and she could remove all the visible cancer, followed by 6 rounds of chemo (CA125 - 0). In September 2020, my mom again felt some discomfort and abdominal pain, with Ca125 elevated to 550+, doctors gave 4 rounds of chemo (Doxyl + Carboplatin), CA125 down to 40. Started with maintenance therapy in Feb 2021 (Olaparib), and the disease was stable till Nov'21 (showed in CT Scan). Starting Dec'21, she started feeling sick with low CBC counts, UTI, breathlessness, dry cough etc. X Ray taken (on 01/14) which revealed slight thickness on the walls of lungs) but rest all clear. Doctor started treating for mild- medium fibrosis (Covid post effect which she suffered in May'21) and UTI. On Feb 4th, she developed extreme shortness of breath, and we went to ER, where they took Xray which showed almost 75% of both the lungs are shadowed/fluid accumulation/Pleural effusion (only 25% of the left lung is visible in the Xray). Doctor is suspecting a relapse. How can cancer spread to such extent in mere 15 -20 days, we are shocked to see, even CT scan showed normal in Nov'21 and she was on Olaparib till Jan'22. Anyone faced such issue, we really need suggestions. Extremely disheartened and sad to see my Mom in so much pain :'(

Hi. This is way beyond my knowledge but I’m wondering if she could have had pneumonia is rather than effects of Covid? It’s a possible side effect of Olaparib. Obviously her oncologist would know best but if it’s recurrence of cancer chemo is the best bet. I hope they get a handle on it quickly! Xx

Hi. Autocorrect changed what I wrote. It should say “pneumonitis”.
