Hi everyone

This post is to share some information with you about a study between the Biomedical Research Centre at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and The Royal Marsden, looking at the role of prehabilitation prior to abdominal surgery for ovarian and endometrial cancer.

Preoperative rehabilitation, or ‘prehab’, is a type of multidisciplinary involvement within healthcare settings, that aims to decrease side effects of medical or surgical procedures. This study will contribute to the growing field of research focussing on the role of diet, lifestyle and wellbeing of patients before surgery, seeking to understand if and how prehabilitation can improve outcomes post-surgery.

The research team are in the early stages of planning their study and are seeking people with experience of an ovarian cancer diagnosis to help design and structure their research. Presently, they are interested in hearing from people at any stage of treatment for ovarian cancer, hoping to learn more about patient experience and potential barriers to engaging with a prehabilitation program. The team want to ensure their research is patient-centred and meaningful.

Getting involved at this point of the research design would involve being asked a few questions about the project and reviewing the project protocol to ensure the structure and approach of the study is engaging and accessible.

If you are interested in learning more, please contact the Research Fellow for this project, Rhia Saggu via rhia.saggu@nhs.net Rhia will be able to answer any questions and share more information about getting involved.

Best wishes

Annie

I wouldlike to take part in Rhia’s research but there is no link on her email address. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and have had 3 cycles and been advised to get fit for surgery by my consultant with an EDS advisor but am meeting slammed doors in the NHS.
