3 weeks post op

Things are still going well recoverywise, but Im wondering how long it will be before I start chemo again, is it supposed to be 4 or 6 weeks after ? The clinical nurse rang me earlier this week to see how I was getting on, the only contact Ive had from anyone post op! I forgot to ask her about the chemo.

Finding it quite hard not to lift things. Had a shopping delivery this morning and although I had delivery into the porch have been carefully tripping backwards and forwards to the kitchen with one item at a time ! I do admit to driving a few hundred yards on Friday to the nearby park to take the dog out.

Are any of us going to rush out shopping tomorrow when the restrictions are lifted or nip to the pub garden? Im in no hurry !

Good to hear you are doing so well. I had my operation towards the end of April, and didn't start chemo until July. I think you need to really heal before starting.I certainly won't be joining the queues outside Primark ( or anywhere else) in the next few weeks. I am not really an Amazon fan, as I really want to keep our high streets, but think I will stick with them for a bit longer.

Do you know what chemo you will be having yet, and have you met with the on c and signed an agreement to start chemo? That will probably be the next step.

Take care, it sounds as if you are doing really wrll.

Sounds like you’re doing really well! I had six weeks between op and chemo, which was normal for here. But it may very in different places I guess. In terms of going out anywhere- no fear! My best friend is coming on Tuesday to sit in the garden and have a catch up since we haven’t seen each other for a year. And I’ll try to arrange a dog walk with a local friend at some point soon. But I’m steering clear of shops and people for a while longer yet!

I had my oncology appointment 4 weeks after my op and chemo 6 weeks after op. Keep yourself safe and away from shops they will still be there after as u don’t want to hold up your treatment for weeks. Wishing you a speedy recovery

Sounds like you are doing so well, I had my chemo 6 weeks after my surgery and like you found the no lifting a challenge and needed to remind myself not to do it as I was so used to doing. I found going for short walks helped me and they were short, but getting out everyday in the fresh air was so helpful . Hope all goes well with your recovery x

Glad you’re doing so well and can recall the trying not to do too much thing! I was driving three weeks after and the advice from the nurse before I left hospital was if you could look over into your blind spots and do an emergency stop without discomfort then you’d be ok. I didn’t start chemo for quite a while after my op (I didn’t have any pre-op) as I had to move back home and there was also a delay with pathology so grading took some time.

Good luck with the next stage x

Hi, glad to hear you are doing ok. From memory chemo started for me 8 weeks after my op. Just go careful so that you are in the best shape to start. Id just offer some caution regarding driving. You may feel up to it but you may be negating your insurance by driving after such a major op. Just something to think about, plus I know its tempting but you need to be kind to yourself and let your body heal. Take care xx

Hi, I'm glad your doing so well, keep up the good work of no lifting so you don't get a hernia. Take care Sue xx

Hi, really pleased to hear things going so well. Do keep taking it easy re lifting. I restarted chemo after 4 weeks ( I think my surgeon wanted it after3) . I'm on chemo for a recurrence so not going to take chances. Going to see family and friends in gardens/ outside but no shopping or pubs for me.

Hope you get an answer soon re chemo - push for it if you don't.

Wishing you the best

My chemo was scheduled 3 weeks after my op but I wasn’t strong enough due to not eating as I’d had a bowel resection at the same time. Managed it a week later, 4 weeks after. I had 4 before and 3 after, an extra one thrown in.

So pleased for you that your recovery is going well. You are wise to continuing being careful but I can totally understand you enjoying the freedom of a short trip in the car.My chemo was scheduled for 3 weeks after my op but sadly my mum died whilst I was in hospital and so it set me back 2 weeks.

Personally I will continue to be cautious despite the easing of lockdown and won’t be going anywhere just yet. Except we will be travelling to visit our new grand daughter & her tired mummy & daddy.

Hope you can continue to keep well and enjoy the spring sunshine.

Jan. xx

Well still havent heard anything about an appointment after 3 1/2 weeks. I will contact the hospital if I dont hear this week as surely something should be happening. I want to know the results of the op too !

Hi Rosebine! I'm messaging you from Australia. I'm so glad that you are doing well. My situation was a bit different. When it was diagnosed, the outlook was not good. I was told that it was inoperable. After 6 months of chemo and Avastin, hooray - debulking surgery was done. Two more rounds of monthly chemo have started and my CA125 has gone down from 1000 to 85. I find that the first days after chemo, I'm high as a kite - prednisone, I suspect. Then I'm tired and PJ and TV days are the way to go. I hope you get those results soon.Hugs,

Jill

I contacted the hospital yesterday to ask about follow up appointment, and it seems nothing has been scheduled, the consultant appeared to have forgotten about me. Thats reassuring

Hi, well done for contacting the hospital. When I was diagnosed a friend of mine who is a nurse at the Marsden told me that I have one role to be my own advocate. This was incredible advice, I have found that it's important to be assertive ( obviously whilst being polite etc). Don't let this go, follow up with an expectation that you are expecting chemo in timescale ( reading posts between 4-6weeks). Look up NI CE guidance so you know what it should be. Really hoping you are back on the radar and there are no further delays. Wishing you the best xxx
