Hello ladies, has anyone had ascites build up whilst on chemo? Or does it mean my chemo has stopped working?

I am on weekly taxol and have also noticed that my hair is growing back these last few weeks

I’m not sure Lyn. Taxol stopped working for me over 4 weeks ago and my hair isn’t really growing back. Bit fluffy at the back but not at all at the front so I don’t think it’s general that hair growing back means it’s not working.Try not to worry sunshine ☀️

Not sure about ascites. My tumours are growing but not the ascites. That seems to have stayed where it is at the base of my lungs. We’re all so different.

Good night and God Bless.

Hi Lyn. My hair started coming back when I went to 2 weekly (all too briefly ). I don’t think it is anything to do with chemo, just your own makeup. It wasn’t really what I would call hair, just fluff. I have now started to grow hair, exremely slowly.

In terms of ascites, can’t help there, I have never had this again (fingers triple crossed here), since it was dealt with by draining and then treatment at first line. I have enough problems with cancer growth here there and everywhere. My relapse (again), was picked up by CA125 and scan. What are your bloods saying? Fingers crossed for you . Therese xx

Hi Lyn. Not ever had ascites but I’m coming up to my last Taxol cycle and my hair has grown quite a bit. My CA125 is still going down. Hope it can all be resolved for you. Taxol has been good for me with hardly any side effects. I actually feel like ‘me’ again x Gilly

Not sure either. I'm on third line treatment (carboplatin) and since second chemo have noticed the appearance of the dreaded swelling. Hoping it is some kind of 'die-off' reaction?? Well we can always hope! I haven't had a CA125 result since the start so I don't know whether that is correspondingly depressing. Best not to ask sometimes. All the best xx

Mine crept up quite slowly but now I have put on 4kg and 5 inches around my waist, nothing fits! I had a terrible night last night so have this morning spoken to my team who have suggested draining, they have said that at this stage it does not mean that chemo is not working so fingers crossed for us both. xx

I have just read your history. I was diagnosed in 2013 . Recurred in 2016. Been on same meds as you having finished carbo and gemzar Xmas 2020. Ca125 rising again. Is Taxol the next line of treatment? My original ca125 was over 6000 when I had ascites. Hope you don't mind me contacting you.

No I dont mind you contacting me. Its hard to know what your team has planned as your next line of treatment, but they will have a plan in place just for you. I was only able to have a greatly reduced rate of taxol 60% due to previously suffering severe neuropathy so I suspect it is why weekly taxol hasn't worked too well for me, lots of ladies on here do very well on it, so if it is your next treatment, I wish you every success with it. Good Luck x

My hair didn't start to come back till I had finished Taxol, but it had never gone away completely, which I was told was unusual but not unheard off. I found Taxol the easiest chemo to have, Di

Hello - I had a lot of ascites build up after my first lot of (first line) chemo but then it stopped. The chemo should dry it up. I really hope you are ok now. Sending you all my best.
