Parp inhibitor
Well done on finishing! Phew! Hope you get on well with Olaparib... I am going on Rucaparib when I get to the end of second line...so I am always interested in how people find Parp inhibitors. Good luck! xx
Hi, I have been on Olaparib for just over 7 years. Side effects are minimal. Ive been working full time whilst on it. Feel good. I wish you well. Kathy xx
Hi, it is really good to know how you had minimal side effect with Olaparib. Any word of advise. My mom will be starting on Olaparib soon..thanks for help.
Congratulations Kathy! 7 years on maintenance with minimal side effects is awesome! I’m finishing caelyx & Carbo for 1st recurrence and looks likely I will soon start olaparib. Do you take 300mg - 2x a day? I thought they’d start off with lower dose and increase as I adapted but they said 600 is standard to start. My labs are out of whack after 9 months of chemo. Did olaparib let your lab results normalize? Will you share a few of the side effects you’ve dealt with?? Thank you!! Elayne
Hi Elayne. My lab results were fine before I started and I have been on 600mg per day since beginning of January 2014. Side effects have been very minimal. Loose/urgent bowel movements is the main side effect but that is manageble and can be managed by avoidance of certain food or knowing if you do eat them then an episode will follow within hours. Another side effect is episodes of dizzyness which is caused by low blood pressure. Olaparib can cause low BP. Pretty much all there is to be honest. Its maintained my CA125 below 3. Good luck, Kathy xx
I have been taking Olaparib since the beginning of June 2020 after finishing 4 treatments of Caelyx/carbo. Thankfully I have felt really well on it without side effects. My Ca125 has remained at 5 which I am very thankful for. Hoping all goes well for you . Ann x
Olaparib now 7 months after frontline chemo. CA125 remaining at 6 and feel well generally, no real side effects. You will do well on it Patricia. Best wishes. X
HiI've been on Olaparib for a year.
I do get some joint pain , abdominal pains and fatigue but its all manageable and tends to come and go.
I feel like my old self most of the time and my CA125 is stable.
The very best of luck to you with your treatment.
Liz.x
Hi I’ve been on it since June 2020 after finishing chemo in April. I had some diarrhea at first but that seems to have worked itself out. The odd time some joint pain. It very minor. Most of the time I feel great.I found it took a little adjustment at first but nothing major.
Hi. I’ve been on Olaparib since April following doxil/carbo for first recurrence. I had trouble with fatigue for the first six months so slept a lot. It got rid of my remaining small tumor and I am very grateful to be on it. I hope it works for you.
Hi Patricia,My wife has had chemo for 6 cycles followed by surgery . She has been on avastin every 3 weeks and olaparib daily since around July. The side effects seem to be ok. She has had some weight gain . Overall it's been ok . Hopefully it will be ok for you too, best wishes tim
Well done! I have been on Olaparib now for 10 months and have had no side effects. My red cells are a bit strange and slightly low haemoglobin but the doc says that is normal but is so pleased that I no longer do monthly checks. The only thing I have which is new is itching and they told me that that has not been reported, but it is not really very annoying.
Good luck with it. Make sure you get the tablets , not the capsules. Tablets are 2 in the morning and 2 at night whereas capsules are 8 both morning and night with a very strict regime. AND they are HUGE.
I have also finished my chemo of carbo/abraxane this week and would be on Olaparib as been told. Good to know all the feedback from everyone as was going to ask. Hoping for the best outcome. @patricia54053, will be having a break for about 4 to 6 weeks before I go on Olaparib.
Thanks everyone, will let you all know how I get on
