Great day today. Three months on parp inhibitor. All disease has now shrunk by 78% and CA125 down to 10! It's absolutely incredible.

Thanks for posting such wonderful news.

I saw your previous post and have looked at the trial on the CRUK website.

I am likely to be visiting the Marsden in a few weeks , and i like the sound of the trial you are on. So far have not been BRCA tested(no family history so they wouldn't do it). However if I understand correctly your trial may accept me . It is possible I fall into the' BRCA like' group, I think this because I have been very platinum sensitve although the cancer keeps coming back..

Fantastic news, you must be over the moon .

FANTASTIC!!!

I could not be more pleased.....what wonderful news.

You've been through so much, and now.....well; words fail me (which they seldom do!)

This is indeed wonderful news. Aside being great for you it gives hope for others, so thanks for taking first dibs and giving it a whirl on behalf of the rest of us!!! ;)

I understand your 'medicine' was a pill and was wondering if this means there are less side affects than chemo.

Carry on the good work, you must be chuffed to bits.

Thanks for all your lovely comments. I am feeling very well on this trial. I can work, swim, exercise as I normally would do whilst taking the drug.

To Julie - Good luck with your appointment at the Marsden. Hopefully if you got on the trial they would test your BRCA status. I was told at a conference recently that up to 50% of ovarian cancer could be 'BRCA-like'.

In answer to Isadora. Yes I will continue taking the drug for as long as it is effective for me.

In answer to Vicky - Yes I take tablets every day and so far have had no nasty side effects at all. Very slight queasiness for the first few weeks (but that has gone now) and hair thinning which may or may not be drug related.

Best wishes to you all

Sharon

So glad to hear of your success. I am BRCA2+ and went up to the Marsden to try for the trial. Unfortunatly no slots were available for me at this time so have had to go back onto chemo. Look forward to hearing of your continued good results.

Nandi, Sorry to hear there were no slots for the trial. I had to wait 3 months to get my slot - a very anxious time. Wishing you success with your chemo.

Unfortunately, I go from nothing to everything really fast. Always srarts with a small pain, then CA125 was elevated from 9 to 21. 2 weeks later it was 139, then 2 wks 300 and just before I started chemo 2 days ago, it was over 500. I also had to have acities drained. Consensus of opinion was wait no longer. Fingers crossed it works as well as it has in the past.

Meantime its great to hear how well you are doing. I was very impressed with all at the Marsden. Feel you are in good hands.

All the best,

So glad to hear your good news. Mandy just told me on the phone when I contacted her. Also I have just read your post. I have been wondering how you have been getting on. Long may it continue. I am Jane who spoke to you on the phone. Referred by Mandy. So pleased for you.

Hi Charon

I went to see Professor Kaye and he suggested I had another course of chemotherapy, either Carboplatin/Gemcitabine or Carboplatin with weekly Taxol. Dr. Lamont preferred the Carbo/Gem option so I took his advice. I have now just completed cycle 3 although was unable to have day 8 of Gemcitabine on its own as levels too low. I have been very sicky this time and have had to have a dose reduction as bloods so low. Have had to have 2 blood transfusions. The good news is that my ca125 has been halving each time and has gone from 1200 to 180 so far. I also have no pain now and my stomach is smaller. I am to have a scan this friday and Dr. Lamont wants to see me to discuss result before I have Cycle 4. If its not working he will obviously stop it. Fingers crossed.

I am BRCA negative so would not be eligible for your trial. They have not ruled out the trial option though. They have done a molecular characterisation of my tumor and there was some talk of AKT inhibiror or something of that kind.. I can go back and see tham at any time.

So pleased about your good news and so few side effects as well.

Keep in touch.

Regards Jane

Hi Jane

Glad to hear that you are responding well to the Carbo/Gem and that your pain has gone but sorry to hear about the horrible side effects. Carbo/Gem was the chemo option that I was offered and would have been on had I not managed to get on the trial.

Wishing you good luck for your scan on Friday. Let me know how you get on.

Regards

Sharon
