Parp inhibitor trial update after 5 months - happy news!
That is fantastic news. Which PARP inhibitor are you taking?
BioMarin's BMN673.
So pleased for you Charon! Wonderful news. My oncologist is checking up on my eligibility for the parp trial. She used to work with the Marsden Team.Having 6th line chemo at the moment so only a thought for the future.Mid chemo ct yesterday and results tomorrow, never gets any easier.

That is such wonderful news, Charon! I'm so glad to hear that all the research we read about is actually helping real friends (virtual ones, anyway!) to overcome OC!
Keep on with the positive attitude that I am sure must be helping you, as well as all the good medicine
Love Wendy xx
Great news!

So pleased for you. I tried to get on that trial, but no slots were available in what they thought was soon enough so I am on A4991014, with carbo. Felt that the team at the Marsden were fantastic.
Wish you continued good success.
xx
Dear Charon, I'm really so pleased that the PARP inhibitor has worked for you. It was good of you to post up the success story as it reminded me that trials are being done that really make a difference. It gives me hope that there will be other breakthrough treatment for us.
I raise a virtual glass of bubbly to celebrate with you. xx Annie
Three cheers for the Marsden. I assume you had the right genes (or the wrong ones). It may be that in the future this treatment will prove effective for a wider group.
thank you for giving us good news.
Sarah
Fantastic news. It's so heartening to hear of success stories so thanks for letting us know.

Thanks for sharing your good news. Gives us all a lift. Good for you!
Wow such wonderful news! I am so happy for you. I know very little about PARP and will have to do some research. Thanks for this important information

Great news... love and best wishe x G x
Dear Charon
Congratulations on the success of your treatment. I do not know anything about this trial since I am having my treatment at UCH & nobody has mentioned this trial. I wil definitely look it up. I am so glad that all the research being done to find the right treatments for all the different cancers are proving to be successful.
I know the medical teams often get a lot of slack however when I hear of all the good work they do I feel incredibly humbled at their perseverance & dedication!
Have a lovely week & enjoy yourself.
Love, Samixa X

Hi Charon,
So pleased to hear your good news! It's very encouraging.
I am hoping to go on PARP trial next. UCL has been mentioned but
I have had breast cancer and now ovarian cancer. They only take ovarian
cancer at this stage so interesting to hear about the Marsden trial.
Enjoy the sunshine - cheers!

what is parp inhibitor?what does it entail.never heard of it before and am interested to find outinfo on it.
Parp inhibitor drugs are being tested to see if they can be effective for treating certain cancers (including ovarian). They seem to be suitable for people whose cancer is caused by a genetic fault e.g. BRCA. I am BRCA 1 positive.
As explained by Cancer Research UK "PARP inhibitors work by preventing cancer cells from repairing certain types of damage to their DNA. Most healthy cells have other ways of repairing DNA damage so they aren’t affected by the drugs, but cancer cells with faulty BRCA1 or BRCA2 can’t carry out these repairs. The combined effect of knocking out both DNA repair mechanisms is so severe that the cancer cells die.
To use an analogy, cells with a faulty BRCA gene are like a table that’s had one of its legs knocked out from under it. It can still just about function, although it’s a bit wobbly. Knocking out the other leg (using PARP inhibitors) makes the table completely unstable and it falls over"
Parp inhibitor drugs are still at the trial stage. The trial I am on is a stage 1 (first in human for this particular parp inhibitor). There are different drug companies testing parp inhibitors at several different hospitals here in the UK.
Brilliant news!!!!

thanks charon for explaining this to me.I do not carry the faulty genes so i dont know if parp inhibitors would do me any good but its good to know what is available out there.N.i, is so behind in the drug field.we havnt even go t the funding for avastin passed yet and even when it is through it is only being given to 3c cases that are only diaognosed.Avastin has been used for 4 years or more in england so its frustrating for us sufferers of o.c. to know there are drugs there that might help but are not available to us.thanks again
