Gave me a very active brain could not sleep. Constant hunger pangs was on them to kill pain from drug avastin which is part of the cancer trial I'm on was diagnosed ovarian cancer stage 4. Had opChemo etc
i only took them, alongside my chemo and loved the increase in activity that i had, prior to the horrendous fatigue of the chemo....looked forward to it prior to the next chemo!!
I have had 2 long courses of steroids. I now have osteoporosis and cataracts and am only 61 yrs. The first course started on 15 mg and was for polymyalgia although ovarian cancer was diagnosed 2 years later. It took about 3 years to get off them. I probably had an iliostomy as a result of being on steroids during my main debulking operation. I was attacked by my dog during chemo and I think the chemo and the steroids delayed the wound healing. I didn’t have any weight or sleep problems the first time. The second course of steroids was for supposed drug induced pneumonitis and started at 30 mgs. This time I put on weight rapidly and was obsessed with eating although this improved as the dose was lowered. It is doubtful that I have pneumonitis as am now off the steroids.
Doctors need to think long and hard before prescribing these pills as they cause a lot of damage to the body. In my case it is possible that I was misdiagnosed on both occasions and the damage was avoidable.
Oh goodness how awful for you a total nightmare ,I will pass on your experience in complete confidence , I really hope things improve for you , thank you for sharing .
My mum has been on them fir years for polymyalgia. The side effects were sweats, puffiness, osteoporosis, weight gain and some personality/mood alterations.
