Tired and in pain

Hi,

I am waiting for my first chemo appointment since I found out last week about my diagnosis.

In the last few days my lower abdomen pain in back has increased and I am having to take ibuprofen and I am feeling more tired. I'm not sure what this means.

Hello... poor you! It’s horrible to be in pain and waiting. I would suggest calling your oncologist to report the new symptoms and ask for advice. Keep an eye on your bowel, make sure you are going regularly and report urgently if you begin to feel constipated.

Hopefully you will get a chemo date soon as even your first cycle should make you more comfortable xx

Hi. Sorry you are so uncomfortable. As Lyndy said even the first chemo can help. I had general twinges and discomfort (nothing bad) but very soon after the fist chemo I realised it had stopped. Hope you are sorted soon.

Hi there. You’re doing the right thing taking painkillers but I would think good old paracetamol would be better than ibuprofen which can cause stomach problems.

This happened to me and when I rang the oncologist he said just take painkillers until your treatment starts.

Anxiety can cause pain to feel worse because we tense up and keep looking for symptoms. Try to listen to some gentle music, breathe slowly and regularly and release tension in your back and abdomen for a few minutes.

I know it’s easy to say all this when your minds in turmoil but it will help.

You must be feeling very worried and anxious, I had no symptoms apart from weeing more , but after I was diagnosed I quickly got bleeding and terrible bloating , after my first chemo my stomach felt much better , the tired feeling will be worse because of the worry and stress ,waiting is awful .

Wishing you well with your chemo .xx

my cancer hasn't really bothered me that much - a little bleeding, a couple of instances of severe pain and some bouts of sickness - otherwise i was feeling pretty healthy. then i had the major op, which lay me low for a little. but now starting to feel ok again and very reluctant to start chemo and so feel bad. i know it's mop up chemo but is there anyone here that has had the op and refused further treatment and been ok? it seems that mostly the cancer recurs anyway ...

What stage does you doc think you're at? Do you know what kind of chemo you will be getting? Carboplatin & Taxol? My low back pain was so intense that it literally dropped me to the ground, worse than when I was in labor with my kids. I can tell you what I did. I agree with Lyndy, make sure you avoid constipation. I suggest a packet of Miralax once a day IF you are constipated or bloated.

Good luck with the chemo. I hope you don't have to wait too long because the build up to isn't helping you physically or mentally. I bet you just want to get on with it now and we can all sympathise with that. All the best, Gina x

When my surgeon first told me I would feel better after my first chemo, I may or may not have given her a dirty look behind my mask😉

I had full-blown ascites and was sick for about a month before my diagnosis.

She was right. After my first chemo, with some of the cancer gone I began to have an appetite and more energy.

Hope you feel better soon.
