I’m due to have my 4th dose of carboplatin tomorrow.im am so tired still from the last dose is this normal .had bloods done on Friday and they are ok .
So tired: I’m due to have my 4th dose of... - My Ovacome
So tired
It is normal. The treatment is cumulative. It's worth asking your GP to check your thyroid though. I had my last chemo in October and still get waves of utter exhaustion.
LA xx
Yes, this is totally normal. Chemo is cumulative, meaning the more you have, the more side effects you'll get. Chemo does not dissipate in your system for about a year after your last dose, so don't worry. Hope this helps! Good luck!
I found carboplatin on its own just about the most tiring of all the chemos I've had...
Stay strong, the end is in sight!
When it kicks in it knocks me for six .had a terrible day yesterday but onc says I only have to have 5 instead of 6 doses .last one week before Xmas .she never said why and I should have asked really .how are you doing and thanks for post x
5 instead of 6 is good news. It will be because of the side effects. It's always a judgement call to get the balance treatment/side effects right. I think oncologists are not really sure how many doses are needed for maximum effectiveness. I had only 5 of carbotaxol. My impression is that as long as you get beyond 4, they're pretty happy. But 5 is better.
I'm very well thanks x
Steff5 has asked her husband to reply as she is not well. She had a very unhappy and life-threatening experience with chemo 10 years ago following breast cancer treatment. Her new primary metastatic ovarian cancer arrived nearly 5 years ago and the only "hope" available was chemo. She was reluctant to try again. Her lovely doctor, in effect, persuaded her to try carboplatin on its own . The concession to Steff5 was that she could have it weekly which meant only having 1/3rd at a time and not being blasted out. Over 4 years she had three lots of 18 week courses and she tolerated them amazingly well. Her pain problems even eased during the chemo and the tumours reduced. She never lost her hair and the staff at the ChemoDayUnit were terrific ,attending to any concerns. After 4 years, she was not able to have any more carbo but it had more than done its job. She did then try taxol but stopped about 6 months ago after one shot. Whilst her health is now deteriorating she is always saying how grateful she is for the carboplatin courses.
Now -pain control -that has been a different and difficult issue throughout these years. It is only now that she is on a syringe-driver that the pain-control has been much more effective. Strangely, the drugs have been so much more effective going in via the blood-stream than via her mouth and we wonder whether this is also true for others .
Sorry for writing so much.
I’m not 100% sure but I think nearly all drugs are more effective and also can be given at a lower dose, if they do not have to go via the digestive system.
That’s good to hear that your wife tolerated three lines of Carbo and felt well and is grateful her team persuaded her to try. I’m sorry to read she’s not feeling so well now.
All the best to you both.
