After the op.......

Hi, I am now three weeks post-op debulking and am managing fine. But I do find that I get awful trapped wind prior to having a poo and going for a wee, the flow seems slower and my bladder never seems nearly as full as it use to be. Is this normal and are there any recommendations. I know recovery takes time. Many thanks, Jan. x.

Hi Jan,

Had my debulking surgery in September 2019 and remember having the same issues. It did take a couple of months for bladder and bowels to settle down afterwards. Suppose, there’s been a lot of manipulation going on in there during the surgery!

Are you going to have chemo too? I found that also had an effect, as does the Olaparib that am now taking, but things have generally settled down. Bladder settled before bowels!

However, I would say that - if you’re having continued problems - don’t hesitate to speak to your Clinical Nurse Specialist(CNS)/MacMillan Nurse. Most are very good at giving advice.

All the best with your continued recovery.

Hi Jan. I echo what Fix said. I felt like everything was a little numb and just odd when I peed (being American I pee rather than wee) for months. Chemo also affected everything for the first few months. Constipation was awful if I didn’t stay ahead of it. So it should eventually get better but especially if it gets worse I would tell your nurse. Good luck with all of it! 🌸

Well done on doing so well, you got this 😊.

Our water works and bowels take a bit of a hammering during surgery and can take a while to settle back into a more normal state, I found my bladder sensation took a while to get back to normal, my surgeon said it sometimes can be due to being catheterised but all was back as it should be after around a month.

Peppermint is great for trapped wind.

Keep doing well lovely ❤️Xx Jane
