Chemo after op.

Was just wondering how soon chemo starts again after debulking op. I heard it was four weeks. Does your consultant decide this at the post op meeting?

Many thanks xx

My chemo restarted around 4 weeks after the operation. My gynae surgeon and oncologist reviewed my case together and we agreed it in my post-op review appointment.

Hi

I'm hoping it will be sooner rather than later. Just want to get on with it. Lol. Xx

Your body has been through a lot and everything has to heal before chemo starts, I started chemo 6wks after my op which was decided by my onc and surgeon.

Take care and have lots of rest.

I was just short of 3 weeks after surgery as you say all depends on your recovery and your oncologist. X

I started 6 weeks after my op, but did have bowel removal to repair from too. You will get a better idea of when it will start when you see your oncologist but I suspect within 4-6 weeks.

I started my Chemo exactly 4 weeks to the day of my surgery. I was told it may impact my healing and I did have some bleeding (not too much though) and renewed aches and pains but it was very manageable.

Take care

Hi Suzanne,

Mine was 6 weeks, so this should give you an average, I was private care ( not that it makes it any better)

Good luck and best wishes for when yours starts

I did not restart my chemo until almost 4 months after my debaulking surgery. Due to major complications post surgery my recovery took a long time hence the delay.

Even so my response to treatment was very good and 12 months since my last chemo I am still free of active disease.

it's interesting reading these replies. I had my second treatment of taxol/ carbo 9 days after my debulking operation. I was still in the hospital and they moved me from the surgical floor to the cancer floor and I had the chemo and went home the next day. I did have to have a blood transfusion because my red blood cell count was low before the chemo . So I had to deal with recovery from surgery and chemo side effects at the same time. Kind of a double whammy. Not sure why my oncologist decided to do it that way except it was around the time I should have the chemo in sticking with an every 21 days schedule. I live in the States so it is really interesting seeing the differences in treatment between the two countries.

Hi Suzanne, I'm going to have my first chemo today!!....6 weeks post op. Not sure how it's decided when to start but may have something to do with staging. All the best, Sarah

Hi Sarah.

Good luck for today. It seems that some women have the chemo quite quickly and others are about six weeks like yourself.

I will ask my consultant next week when I see him. I had my op two weeks ago but my last chemo was 1st September. Xx

I was told to stop chemo 3 weeks before the surgery. DR say they want to prepare the body for surgery and make sure chemo it out. Then I will start chemo again about 4 weeks after the Surgery. I have the surgery on Dec 6. It will be discussed after surgery too. This is the plan though. I do live in the States. Good luck xoxeoZ

About 4 weeks or so. You need time to heal. Chemo attacks fast reproducing cells so you don't want that to affect you incision healing. Rest up and feel better!

My chemo started 4 weeks post surgery, my onc asked if I was up to it. Already started chemo prior to post op appointment.
