PLEASE JUST STAY HOME FOR US

ELDERS /IMMUNE COMPROMISED LETS TELL OUR STORIES AND SHOW OUR FACES. SO EVERYONE KNOWS WHO WE ARE.

I am 53, a daughter, sister, wife, mother of 2 and friend. I was a primary school teacher for 13 years and have been a child protection social worker for 8 years (although I am on sick leave and desperate to go back to work to help). I was diagnosed with Stage 3c Ovarian Cancer in 2019, have had my spleen removed as part of my surgery and am on my 5th line of chemotherapy. I am still actively having chemotherapy treatment. Together with millions and millions of others in the world I am severely immune-compromised and at very high risk from coronvirus.

Tragically it looks like potentially tens of thousands in the UK ( hopefully not more) and hundreds of thousands or millions around the world may die directly because of coronovirus. The largest proportion of these people will be immune - compromised and elderly.

BUT there are also going to be many further thousands and thousands and possibly millions of people who die indirectly from coronvirus because of the diversionn of health services in both the short and long term away from their current disease.

People with immune compromised diseases/other diseases will not be able to access ICU if they become seriously unwell with their disease if ICU is full of people with coronovirus, Treatments are having to be compromised - for example oncologists are having to balance the short term risk of patients receiving their chemotherapy and being exposed to coronovirus against the long term risk of not receiving timely treatment for their cancer. WE REALLY, REALLY NEED CORONVIRUS KICKED INTO TOUCH QUICKLY.

So every time you are tempted to go and see some friends in their home or stop for a chat, or get on a train and visit a "quiet London" or have a "t's only a flu-bug party" please, please, please think of all the precious people with immune - compromised systems and our limportant elders.

Hold us in your heads and hearts and please, please, please follow our government advice- JUST STAY AT HOME FOR

Hi Sara,

Thanks for telling your story. I can't believe it's not been on the TV about people having their treatments cancelled etc, I think it would make people realise how serious this is!!

Is there any way we could start a campaign or has that been done already?

Thank you for such a heartfelt post. I’m going to share that with my colleagues if you don’t mind. Those that think popping out and still socialising are just selfish and not thinking at all about the risk to others.
