Rising blood test results

Hello,

I’m feeling so nervous as my CNS just called to say my numbers have jumped from 36 two months ago to 91 today. I've been getting some pain for the last couple of months under my ribs, and what feels like period pain, which as there nothing left there can't be.

My appointment with my consultant is in the 2nd March, that seems such a long time away, logically I know it’s not.

Has anyone had a jump like this, does it mean it’s back?

Hugs to all xx

Hi Tay100 - I am sure you must be anxious about your upcoming appointment. A jump from 36 to 91 in two months is a notable jump and one that will trigger additional tests to determine if you have recurred (mine jumped from 10 to 25 this last visit - and while 25 is still below the 35 limit of "normal" my oncologist is setting up a scan just to be sure). One cannot know with any certainty until the tests are complete - so it's test, worry, get results and wait for the next appointment where additional worry ensues or where a treatment plan is presented.

Sadly, unless you can move your appointment, all you can do is wait. Worry about what might happen does not prevent anything from happening and nor does it make whatever will happen change in any way. Distracting yourself with activities, projects, family or hobbies will help keep your mind from wandering into the vast space of "what if" (though you will see many of us there as we all occasionally spend time in the land of "What If "). It's no comfort, but it will make the days between now and March 2 pass quickly and possibly pleasantly.

Wishing you someone to hold your hand and make you laugh in these next few weeks and wishing you a good meeting with your team. Do keep us informed.

Thank you so much for your reply, what you have said makes perfect sense. My husband is great at making me laugh and I have the added pleasure of my 8year old grandson on a sleepover as he calls it with me this evening and tomorrow. Your right it’s hard not to imagine all sorts and the gremlins as my hubby calls them wake me in the middle of the night with the what ifs. I will do my best to keep busy and I guess just wait and see what happens x

I think we can all empathise with your fears, it’s so scary when we hit a bump in the road and our already battered minds go into overdrive at the slightest potential hitch, it would be so easy to say don’t worry, but you’re a normal person with those deep in the early hours of the morning dark thoughts we all have, however, March 2nd will soon be here and your oncologist will be able to advise. They’ll probably check your bloods again and if they’re still raised arrange a scan for you.

Don’t forget our CA 125 can change if we have any inflammation or an infection from a source other than our disease and I hope you are able to get answers speedily. Take care lovely ❤️Xx Jane

Bless your heart.

It is so hard not to worry.

This happened to me at the end of last year so I popped into a Drop in Cancer centre. I was given advice to try not to leap ahead at what might be but to focus on the next appointment ( which for me was a CT scan to find out if there was anything to be concerned about).

This helped & I decided while I felt well enough I was going to do my best to enjoy my Mum’s 80th birthday, Christmas & then a Wedding.

Your appt isn’t too far away now. Keep your mind distracted as much as possible to help you through this concerning time.

Hopefully all will be ok & you can carry on living your best life.

Take care, Lynne x
