Ascitic Drains.

I have so far had two ascitic drains and am filling up again, only now I'm having chemo, I wondered when they would do another drain, at the end of a course, before another starts? I feel this time the fluid has slowed slightly, but I don't want to get so uncomfortable as before. Any advice from you lovely ladies would be appreciated.

Thanks, Jan.

I had a drain before chemo started and they thought I may have to have another between 1st and 2nd treatment but the chemo slowed it. Fluid had disappeared after 2nd chemo. I know everyone is different so not sure if this will help or not. Hope all goes well x x

Thank you, I'm due for blood test and to my Oncologist next Wednesday before my next course, so I'll see if I can get it down at the beginning of the week. Its been a bit slower this time so perhaps I might be similar to you. Your reply is much appreciated. Jan.

I was the same. Totally miserable with both ascites and pleural effusion.

They never drained the effusion and that was the worst problem for me, crushing my lungs and esophoghas, so that I couldn’t eat or drink.

I had two ascites drains before chemo started. Stayed miserable for three weeks, when suddenly, in the forth week, the fluid drained away and never came back!

That was because the Carbo/Taxol whammy, slammed my cancer that fast.

What a relief!

I hope this happens to you soon.

Best wishes,

Laura

I was exactly the same - two drains before Carbo/taxol and none after it started. Good luck to you - hope you are the same xxx

Hi Jan

Sorry to hear about the awful time you're having with ascites. I was admitted to hospital twice during this Christmas period with ascites. They drew some of the fluid away during my first admission and then helped to control it with medication a few days ago. Some fluid still remains.

When I was first diagnosed 2 years ago the fluid completely disappeared after my very first chemo. I am hoping that this will happen again when I start chemo next week. Take care Ann x

Hi

I had a drain prior to having chemo. What I mean I had already had two chemos and before starting 3 they did the drain and gave me chemo when drain was removed 6 hours later.

Hope that helps

I had 3 drains every 2 weeks, the last was half of the 1st, thanks to chemo. The last check, no ascites! Chemo kills it!
