Scar Advice

After advice I had a total hysterectomy and other things - I have a large scar going up to my rib cage - I had 51 staples so quite large. It’s taken me a while to touch the area and now I’d like to know what you lovely ladies use on your scars to make them less dry as to date I’ve not used anything as I didn’t want to infect the area. Think I need something without perfume. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Hi I had the same thing up to the rib cage. They prescribed a cream at the time but I cannot remember the name. I will say though that since 2015 I have had aches from the rib cage which come and go particularly if I have been over doing things and was told I would have to live with it. Hope this helps and best wishes for a swift recovery.

Hi. I used Bio-oil for my main operation scar, but used the gel version, not the straight oil. However I had a port fitted four weeks ago and discovered a Bepanthen product for scars. For scars up to four weeks old you just put a thin layer on twice a day, and this helps keep the moisture in. After four weeks you use a roller which is at the other end of the tube, followed by a thin layer of the gel. I build scar tissue, so I am trying this to see if it will stop this happening, as I have two cuts, one for the port and one for the tube which goes down to the vein. The main scar is just above my breasts, so I do not want this to look too ugly.

I also used Bio Oil. I think this is very popular with ladies. Gwen Xx

My US hospital only encourages petroleum jelly on incisions. I have used Vitamin E oil. I am surprised at 9 months out how good my large scar looks.

On a humorous note, a friend of mine was also left with a large scar and commented on it to her surgeon. His reply was that it would be nothing but a cat scratch. Her reply was, “Well, that’s some cat!!!”😉

Bio oil is fabulous, I waited until the scar was healed first then gently massage with the oil, I also found it great for my dry skin during chemo alongside E45 lotion and Aveno. ❤️Xx Jane

I had 60 staples I call it my jack the ripper scar, I used maderma. Expensive but worth it. , it's there but some areas barely visible. Took about 2 yrs to disappear.
