BRCA positive but it’s not hereditary.

Good morning lovely ladies I hope you’re all doing well.

This morning I’ve had a bit of confusion regarding my BRCA diagnosis. Initially I was told I was BRCA Negative- good news for my girls and sister. Then in April my oncologist said I was BRCA Positive! Now to clarify my oncologist is French and speaks only a little English and my French is not fluent so my questions weren’t really answered clearly. The letter from the geneticist to her cleary states BRCA POSITIVE and Olaparib should be used.

Fortunately I have not had any recurrence since end of treatment in January so have not had it prescribed. However, my sister has been undergoing genetic testing and the English geneticist spoke to the French one and all became clear. My blood test was negative but my tumour tested positive which means I have the mutated type and not the inherited type.

This means my family does not have an increased risk of OC, but than if I do recur I can be treated with Olaparib.

So a little silver lining on a rainy day here in France.

Sending you all love and positive vibes

Joy 💕💕

What a worry you've had, Joy. Thank goodness it's now been clarified and it's good news. Let's hope you'll not have a recurrence and never need Olaparib - but if you do it's there to help with treatment. 👏

Love, Solange 😊

Its nice to have other options besides chemo that can have the same effect if not an even better one! I was on Olaparib for a year (before numbers creeped up to the point of scan showing progression) and it was such a nice break to have pills---more freedom, less side effects, etc. Glad to read you have that option! Good luck with all! oxox

Wonderful news! I was tested last week and awaiting results. I hope it’s similar to yours.

Love Angela xx
