Has anyone had problems with adhesions following debulking surgery? I had my surgery two years ago and I am getting problems now.

what types of problems and how do you know the problems are due to adhesions?

I had adhesions in my small intestine not so long after debulking, I was operated in Guys in 2018 and have had no problems since. Not a nice experience but I am alive!

Hi Tabby, I had my debulking surgery almost five years ago. I have much scar tissue in my abdomen due to my cancer spreading into my intestines. I’ve had a few bowel obstructions due to that scar tissue. Other than that, I also have a difficult time with a colonoscopy, because of some narrowing with scar tissue. Other than these problems, I really don’t feel pain in general. I’m hoping that this answers maybe some of your problems. My Dr. just tells me to chew my food well and drink plenty of water or other liquids. Take care, Donna.

I also had problems during a colonoscopy, as the probe thingy (?) couldn’t get past my sigmoid colon. It seems to be a bit of a lottery with adhesions post debulking. Deb x

When I had my colonoscopy, I could feel the pain because my colon in considered tortuous on my paperwork. If I have another one, they told me that they would have to give me general anesthesia when doing that procedure. I had some large polys, but they were benign. I really don’t want to schedule another one, because I don’t like the prep. I always feel sick doing that drinking. Anyway, scar tissue isn’t fun; especially when you have had extensive work on your intestines. Sending best wishes, Donna

Hi Donna, I plan never to have another one! I’m old enough not to care about polyps, especially as a friend had his bowel perforated during a colonoscopy. Also, the bowel prep is DISGUSTING! Deb x

I totally agree with you, but that won’t make my Dr. happy! 😂

Keeping my doctor happy is quite a long way down my list of ‘things to do’! 😂

I feel the same way - disgusting. My last colonoscopy, the doctor was unable to get in very far due to adhesions. Since I am 78, we just gave up on it until I had some severe unexplained abdominal pain a few months ago. Many tests but nothing showed up. Pain was in a different area that my bowel obstruction pain and my gastro and GP both suggested a "virtual colonoscopy", which has the same disgusting prep and very few gastro doctors do them. I have managed to put it off and the pain magically went away after 6 weeks.

I had a bowel blockage due to adhesions a year after OC debulking surgery. The bowel blockage was the most miserable experience. It started with vomiting and then after a few hours it was obvious it was an emergency situation. My surgeon gave me gastrographine which unblocked me. Gastrographine is given 24 hrs before an xray but also sometimes unblocks the adhesion- (maybe like graphine on a sticky zip?) I personally think keeping hydrated might help prevent adhesions. I send you all the best- adhesions are really miserable.

yes I’ve had problems since mydebulking surgery in 2017 and stoma reversal in 2019. Constant pain and digestive issues. I had two more surgeries for this, adhesyolosis (sorry can’t spell that). The latest one they found my bowel was stuck to my abdominal wall. I’m still in pain so I understand how miserable it is. Hope you are sorted soon .

Hi Eriksendi, so sorry that you have to deal with so much pain. Thinking of you, Donna 🙏❤️

It’s miserable but I’m still here so that’s the big plus and no recurrence since 2017. Incredibly lucky, I know being stage 3b. I appreciate every single day with my family x x
