I was so happy I made the effort to attend Patient day yesterday. As usual Sharon had organised the day perfectly. Her guest speakers were truly inspiring and meeting old and new friends was the icing on the cake.
June and Rachel were as usual giving their time and Rachel touched us all with her own story.
Claire the physio encouraged us all to exercise properly and told us the benefits.
Terry the Geneticist amazed me with her super knowledge on this subject. She even managed to make such a complex subject understood by us lay people.
Dr Donal Brennan gave us the latest on treatments for OC. it's so obvious that he is actually on women's side and did not talk down to us in a patriarchal fashion as can sometimes happen to some of us.
After lunch Gemma told her story and blew us all away with her description of her various experiences. She made us weep when she spoke so movingly about her late mother. Then she made us laugh in between. She is my benchmark . She was diagnosed in 2003 and is still going strong !
I won't forget Alice from Ovacome who came to Dublin at very short notice to tell us all about the wonderful services of Ovacome. Brilliant presentation.
Last but not least came David Shannon Counselling Psychologist who gave us wonderful advice on coping skills . I loved the quotation he gave us " The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists " .
It was lovely to meet everyone again and meeting Bridget and J J from my neck of the woods was so interesting for me. It was good for me to hear their story.
Good to meet too Marie who sat beside me and Tina whose ear I bent long after it was over. Forgive me if I have left anyone out. It's only because my chemo brain hasn't remembered the name.
Until we all meet again at a coffee morning take care
