Special Person Update

Hi lovelies,

I was at the hospital today with my special person (she's still in...) a palliative care nurse came along and started saying what she was doing with my special person stronger laxatives etc she was just about to go then her oncologist came and the nurse decided to stay (I could have killed her by the end of the meeting) so her oncologist started saying what was going on and then the bloody nurse kept butting in repeating what she had just told us I went to ask a question about the current situation and the nurse butted in again, obviously being on the ward her oncologist couldn't hang about too long, so it was almost pointless being there, then I went and found Mark (the registrar from Christmas πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) he was an absolute diamond got her medical records up and went through the scan results with me from last week told me that there is increased disease around her bowel but it's not a blockage which is good and there are new nodules on her liver so I relayed this to her she's okay with it she said it's nothing we didn't know already but at least we know what is actually going on in respect of the disease, and treatment will be discussed when she is better and out of hospital xxx

Sending you best wishes . My mum had a great palliative care team but it was all a little too late. Macmillan were next to useless at Peterborough hospital. Keep ahead and get all the information you can . Again very best wishes x

Her Macmillian nurse is amazing I can't fault her at all, the palliative care nurse is from the local hospice which is absolutely rubbish! They were rubbish for my Grandad and haven't improved much since 2007 xxx

I’m glad to hear you are getting support. I suppose it just is as good as who you get. Best wishes XX

I don’t think I could have been polite to that nurse. It can be really difficult to try and get information or discuss stuff if someone takes it upon themselves like that. It was good that you had Mark for second base. I suspect that he was able to give you more time than her oncologist. Fingers crossed that she soon gains strength and is able to leave hospital. This disease is so hard and so is the treatment.

🀞that she will soon able to discuss the next treatment step.

Best wishes

Fay

I found it difficult to hold my tongue, believe me. I said to Mark about it and he said you should have just told her to shut up πŸ˜‚ I said I can't do that, (due to the fact that my own mum bought me up to respect my elders) his response was yes you can, manners don't get you anywhere in hospital 😊 but he was mid conversation with another doctor cut that conversation short and told him to do something then spoke to me and gave me all the time and information I needed xxx

I am with Mark on this one. Tell her to shut up!

Polite but firm, say you need this information first hand, directly, no distraction and could she please come back later? Hard to do, I know, but this situation is hard enough without plonkers making it worse! Then when you see her again you can tell her that she should make this a learning point for all staff and that you would be happy to address their next staff meeting on the subject.

In the meantime hope your special person is released from hospital soon, and best wishes to you too! Xx

If it happens again I won't be holding my tongue I said this to my special person after speaking with Mark. I do like the idea of attending her staff meetings to address the situation, I might see if I can do that if it happens again xxx

I’m sorry your special person soon recovers some strength and that the laxatives do their job so she can come home. Isn’t it annoying when people butt in on something not directly concerning them? Maybe she wanted to score brownie points with the consultant, well done on not committing murder, not easy I know. I suppose the upside is because of her you got some more eye candy alongside the relevant information you needed, always an upside 😊.

Big hugs to both of you, 🀞🏻 You get some movement soon ❀️Xx Jane

Mark has grown on me and he's quite the flert πŸ˜‰ I was up there just after she went in and was in shorts and t-shirt he came along and was staring at me I then looked he then said he was admiring my trainers (my trainers are old) he was looking at my legs πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ xxx

Thank you for the update. I have been thinking about you. Didn't realize your special person was still in. At least she is getting cared for. Very very annoying when a medical person doesn't let you get a word in edgewise. Then you begin to wonder if they are even good listeners. Thank goodness for angels like Mark. They exist in every place and are there to genuinely help you. Sending you best wishes to get her out of the hospital and home. Always have you in my thoughts and prayers.

It's annoying because the nurse could have sent an email to her oncologist. Mark had been amazing! Hope you're okay haven't seen you about for a while, you're always in my thoughts too xxx

In addition to the real issue itself....trying to keep up with different administrations is aweful. I am doing well. Just taking it one day/month at a time. I truly keep you in my thoughts. You were my first friend from across the pond. XOX
