ICON 9 phase 111 Trial

Hello ladies,

l will get my final chemo Carbo/Gem this week, it's been ok after the initial few problems. Consultant is then allowing me to go on holiday- hoora! The plan is that l then hopefully qualify for the above trial. I am presently going through the hoops of test for the trials team. The drugs involved are Olaparib and Cediranib.

Has anyone else joined this trial and if so what are your experiences?

If l'm not accepted on this trial, due to perhaps my blood pressure readings which are slightly outside their requirements, hoping the GP will get this down for me with either a change in meds or increase of my very low dosage of beta blocker.

Another drug mentioned has been Rucaparib but reading up on this, it does not seem to be used, as not funded by most hospitals. Perhaps my hospital has been lucky to get funding. Something l will ask if that becomes my drug.

Hope today is a good day for you all and if not, tomorrow can always be a better day.

love to all

Sylvia x

Hi Sylivia - I cant advise on the drugs, but I do want to wish you a fantastic holiday. Forget about cancer for a short while and feed your soul with peace and tranquillity. Enjoy xx

Thank you Lyn

l am presently booking places to stay on the way to Biarritz. We have agreed that although my energy levels will be low, no discussion of cancer or follow on treatments. Just lap up the french countryside and all that it has to offer, cant wait. :)

Hi Sylvia I have trialled Cederanib andcurrently trialling Olaparib but not both together. The one side effect both have is loose bowels and an urgency. Worse on Cederanib and less so on Olaparib, so not sure how the combination would be. Having said that we are all different and you may not get that side effect! Good luck xx Kathy xx

Thanks Kathy

Sounds like l could possibly ditch the movicol and lactulose! Always willing to give it a go, as you say everyone is different. Many thanks for the feedback. Will update you in time.

Hi. i don't have personal experience of this but researched it when I recently thought I was eligible for the trial in Australia. (Unfortunately I wasn't as its my 3rd recurrence, not 2nd)

Olaparib is a parp inhibitor which works fairly well for some women especially if they are BRCA1 or 2. The women who were on the arm of the trial who took both drugs did better than the parp only arm of the trial. However some of them had stronger side effects. You can look up this Phase 2 trial results. Both had increased progression free time though.

Rucaparib is another parp inhibitor which is used alot in USA now. You may wish to visit the Inspire site. Join the ovarian cancer string and type Rucaparib in on top left and you will read all the conversations about it, including if it helped or not and side effects etc.

Big hugs from English gal in Australia.
