I've been told I have a cat3 (high risk) mass on my right ovary and i need it removing . Opted for full hysterectomy as I'm 49 and already had menopause and kids so figured it best all come out now. Ca125 was only 1 but I'm still on the urgent list due to scan result. Just got my date for surgery - 8th August. Is this for real ? I've had my symptoms for over a year and had bladder biopsy kidney scans all sorts and now they've finally found it they want me to wait til August !!! Consultant is leaving so his list is being shared amongst other consultants . I need to know if this is right ..can it wait 3 months really ?? I'm scared .

Hi lovely,

I’d ring and ask for another date closer to this end of the year than August! Just say you understand that the consultant is leaving however it’s graded as urgent, is there another hospital they can get you in quicker? Always worth asking if not then surely they can put you on a list if there’s any cancellations to get in quicker xxx

Another thing you can do is call and say you want to be called if there is a cancellation. They usually let you know a few days before hand.

My worry would be if the cyst burst.

Best wishes,

Laura

Could your GP not look to see if other areas have a shorter list? At the very least I'd keep ringing for cancellations.

Hope you get it sorted soon. 💐😘

I don't think they should wait, may be till then it becomes potential dangerous it gets spill away. Better to do it asap

I waited 2 months and by that time I was unable to eat and went to my operation in a state of severe weakness. I think you should press for an earlier appointment of try for another hospital.

Also I would have this operation done by a gynecological oncologist.

They are better trained at removal. Sometimes the cyst can spill out into your insides as it is removed and if it comes back as cancerous( which can happen (even if your ca125 is low) that is a problem with the cancer spreading. I don’t mean to scare you, but I would definitely consult with this type of oncologist.

I don’t think you should wait—that’s a long time. I’m in the US so don’t know how easily you can switch doctors but I would try going to a top cancer hospital if you can.
