Hello - I didn't have Avastin, but I did have carbo/taxol and had terrible dry eyes. I bought eye drops from the chemist I think they were called Optrex dry eye drops? I remember they had lots to chose from, so a word with the pharmacist might be helpful. Good Luck xx

Hi Lyn

Thanks for reply. Been like this since started chemo in October 2016.

Referrred to eye clinic and now on hourly Hylo Forte, steroid drops four times a day and VitA pos gel for nighttime use and using a hot eye mask and massage once or twice a day.

Hoping for improvement but relief for about 15 minutes then dry and heavy again.

Hi, Yes I suffer with dry eye syndrome, since finishing carbo/taxol regime during 2016. My optician suggested I use warm teabags place on the eyelids for a few minutes several times a day & then massage under the eye from outside in as sometimes the liquid becomes like wax on the outside corners & this is what causes dry eyes.

I do find this helps, so if you try this I hope it works for you.xx

Hi Caleda4

Thanks for reply.Been referred to eye clinic. Put on steroid drops, hourly Hylo Forte eye drops and VitApos gel for nighttime use. Also use heated eye mask, massage and bathe with boiled water once or twice a day.

Only seems to relieve eyes for 10-15 minutes then feel just as bad.

Hoping the above regime will kick in soon.

It's 5 years since I had Carboplatin, & 4 years since I had Taxol, & I have no idea whether there is a connection for me. I have had dry eyes for quite a while, & was advised to ask my GP for a prescription for eye drops by a consultant when I had cataract surgery. She prescribes Hylo Forte, so I get it free on prescription. Di

Hi Di

Thanks for reply. My optician suggested Hylo Forte about a year ago. Similar response as other drops, worked for about 10 minutes then just as bad.

Referred to hospital eye dept who have prescribed Hylo Forte, Hylo Dual (to be used alternately on an hourly basis), VitA gel for nighttime use, and steroid eye drops for a month!

Not a lot of time for anything else and still not much improvement. Still hoping!

Hello...Avastin works by preventing the development of new blood vessels to feed tumours, I suspect that something about this action is affecting your eyes. My nose was badly affected and they could only offer topical treatments, so well worth seeing an ophthalmologist for advice- hopefully it is just temporary xx

Hi Lynda

Thanks for your reply. Finished Avastin and Taxol in December 2016 after two infusions as side effects too much. Continued with carbo only. Another 6 rounds of carbo in 2018 and problems with eyes, ears and nose from beginning.

Still having the same problems although nose eased a little and have found a way to ease feeling of ear pressure.

Seen ENT, had CT head scans, and MRI head scan. No obvious problem. ENT suggested nasal rinse which I tried without success. Nasal sprays too we're no help.

Been referred to hospital eye dept who confirm eyes just very dry.

Hourly eye drops, eye gel for nightime, and a course of steroid eye drops at the moment.

Fingers crossed!

Hope all goes well for you.

Janet
