Dry skin

Hi ladies,

I hope you are all feeling great and doing well.

I've found since my chemo that I have very dry skin. Has anyone else had this problem? It could just be that I'm getting older and would have had it anyway. I spend ages night and morning creaming up and then feeling sticky and wondered if anyone has any advice to help or anything to recommend that does the trick.

Thanks ladies,

Zena x

Aveeno cream is great, I used it through out all my chemo.

I also have very dry, dehydrated skin even though I'm drinking a lot of water. I'm using Bio Oil.

Avon platinum day & night, £20 for 2 together. Argan oil on top on any body lotion every morning-works better than coconut oil but too sticky for night time.

Take a break, use something different for a week from any usual routine.

My skin gleams

I have the same, incredibly dry skin during the Carboplatin and Caelix chemo schedule. Having all the chemo toxins in my body, I started making my own hand lotions and creams with very pure ingredients like organic coconut oil, shea butter, almond oil , bees wax and essential oils.

Luckily only one more chemo!

Hope you are doing well.

Thanks cd25. I'm doing very well thanks. I'm doing so well that I shouldn't be complaining about dry skin when there's so much more I could be moaning about. Are the things you're trying sticky? That's one of the things that puts me off certain creams.

Hope chemo goes well. I'm four years clear now. x

It's one of the many happy side effects of chemo but fortunately it's one of the lesser worrying ones, plenty of moisturiser as has already been said, my hair and nails just aren't the same either but hey ho, we're still here to talk and laugh about it so a very small price. Keep well and keep smiling Zena ❤️Xx Jane

Thanks Jane,

As I say, I've got neuropathy, something wrong with my back, my shoulder, my mouth but other than that there's nothing wrong. I'm walking, playing badminton, doing all the things that everyone else can do and there's plenty that can't.

I'm a very lucky woman.

Best wishes and hope you are well,

Zena x

I too have the neuropathy in my hands and feet , I can no longer have anything with yeast in it (there goes the wine, beer and bread 😬 a stone and a half of weight went too without too much effort so there's always an up side) flour is questionable too, so that's cakesand pastry but I persevere with these 😂, my sense of smell and taste are certainly different and my sleep pattern has changed dramatically but in the whole scheme of things these are a very small price to pay. I too am a very lucky woman, stay well and I will most certainly try to too ❤️Xx Jane

Hi Jane,

Did you come off the yeast because of the neuropathy or was that to do with something else? I don't eat much bread anyway but I do like a drop of rum. I drink at least four pints of water and day and don't drink tea of coffee but that's not a recent thing.

My tummy is very bloated. I thought I'd have a nice flat tummy after the operation so that was a disappointment.

The yeast and flour thing is seemingly an intolerance since the chemo. I'm afraid the flat tummy is a distant memory for me, I'm getting there slowly though but it's hard work. I had my omentum removed along with The kitchen sink and plumbings during surgery and other ladies have said they don't have a flat tummy anymore and we all think it's something to do with the omentum going 😬 ❤️Xx Jane

Thanks Jane,

It's something else I'll just have to put up with. It's a shame as my clothes don't look so good with a six month pregnant look. Still, I've seen worse. Zena x

This is an extra from the one below. I've only been on this site a couple of weeks so I didn't see you in the Tshirt. I've just looked and you look fabulous, healthy and fit for anything. Zena x

My GP's prescribed dermol 500 which seems to work. One doc advised purchase of aveeno but it didn't work for me.

My skin was certainly much drier from the chemo. i would use unfiltered coconut oil. It goes on greasy but absorbs quickly an is wonderful. good for lips and under eyes also.

Hi Ladies.......I did have very dry skin after chemo and I use the Palmers coco butter oil. It is wonderful and absorbs right into your skin and you do not feel sticky

My vote goes to Udder Cream (Udderly Smooth). I don't know where you live, I'm in Canada, and I got it at the pharmacy. It's fantastic and very, very inexpensive Kim xx
