“Area of MIXED DENSITY” ?

RachelFaye profile image
11 Replies

On recent ct post-operative scan imaging report radiologist found a 1.6 cm area of mixed density in upper left vaginal vault.

It may be a haematoma or NOT ?

In August last I had :

Total abdominal hysterectomy

Bilateral saplings oopherectomy

Omentlectomy

Did anyone have above finding and what did it turn out to be?

Terrified of recurrence!

Awaiting a future December ct scan for reassurance!

I hope someone replies,

What does your Oncologist say this is?

Are you still having Chemo?

I guess this is something to discuss. Have your CNS arrange an appointment or simply wait for your next scan.

Good luck,

Laura

I thank you Lindaura for your reply.

I don’t have an oncologist because my Ov Ca was Stage 1A Grade 1.

Just 3-monthly surveillance checkups (internal examination).

My gynecologist and radiologist think it might be a post-op haematoma(wound/bruise internally.

Ct scan (my 3rd since Aug. 2nd) scheduled for Dec 3rd, God willing.

I don’t have a cancer designated nurse either.

I feel a bit out of the system.

Chemo. was not prescribed neither.

What do you and anyone think?

I don’t really understand how stage 1 cancer is treated. Are you in the UK or USA?

I have heard that 1A is easily treated and that the chance of recurrence is very low.

So I think all is well, but perhaps someone else in here has experience with Stage 1cancers.

Best wishes,

Laura

Hi,

Well I was1c mucinous and had a radical hysterectomy and 6 months Chemo.

My understanding is if you are 1 a chemo isn’t necessary, but in my case 1c, it was.

In any case you have been very lucky to be diagnosed early, sounds like you have been well taken care of and your team is on your case.

But, get together any questions or anything bothering you and speak to them next time, I am sure they will have the answers,

Xx

Dear Caroles1,

I was diagnosed with Stage 1A Grade 1 epithelial sub group endometrioid carcinoma in September.

No chemo.

Surveillance 3-monthly physical, no scans or CA125

Terrified of the “1.6cm area of mixed density” ct report

I am blessed that Providentially while having an ultrasound for kidney all my life an ovarian mass was diagnosed.

Debulking surgery

Terrified of a recurrence

Has anyone had imaging report (ct scan)

With reporting:

AREA OF MIXED DENSITY

? Post-operative haematoma

? Recurrence of cancer

I wish all so much of being well!

I think your scan in December will make you feel re assured and you are being monitored regularly. I am 4 years NED in March and I can honestly say I was fearful for at least 2 of those years and approaching my checks I am difficult to live with😳

It is something you learn to live with, otherwise, what is the point? You can’t spend your life worrying about what may not happen, otherwise you will spoil your life, embrace the good times and keep yourself busy.

I am 62, so, near your age and am very involved with caring for grandkids and family in general.

If you find you are getting depressed or worrying constantly, see if they offer councelling in your hospital, I did this and it helped soooooo much.

Apparently, we suffer from post traumatic stress after this kind of diagnosis. I was given ways of coping and attitudes to adopt, particularly on dealing with not so well meaning people, which I had the misfortune to come in contact with😬

Dear Carole, I am grateful for response and am getting a little counselling.

I got courage and booked a 2 night stay by the beach in my home county for 4-5 Decembe, day after scan.

i hope to ring a nurse in Cancer society to try and throw light on

"area of mixed density" and i am grateful that to date all is no worse.

keep as well as possible

The radiologist can explain their report

Do I reply to the radiologist’s name on imaging report of the local hospital?

I sincerely thank you for reply.

I note you said your gynaecologist/radiologist has already stated they think it might be a post -op haematoma. Who actually gave you the CT results? Ring, or see that person and say you're worried about the exact description, what actually does that mean? They are the radiologist's words. Perhaps if they were concerned, the gynaecologist would have ordered a CA125 blood test, but that reading does not definitely mean anything in itself. Scar tissue will still be healing I imagine, since August. There's no harm in speaking to a cancer charity about how you feel about everything, but they may not be able to tell you exactly what that term means. All the best
