Haemorragic cyst : Hi there does anyone know if... - My Ovacome
Haemorragic cyst
Hello!
I have recently gone through the same experience, so I hope can share my journey. I was admitted to hospital with kidney stones and a CT scan picked up a enlarged right ovary. As I was under the care of a urologist he could not tell me very much other than they would refer me to gynaecology and i would receive a letter in the post within 4-6 weeks. Thankfully i have private health care through work and contacted a gynaecological oncologist , within days I had had a consultation and a USTV scan (ultrasound transvaginal) the doctor performing the scan thought it could be a hemorrhagic cyst , but the cyst presented with an internal vascularised separation which they wanted to monitor for 4-6 weeks to see if it would decrease in size or if it didn't they would remove, after a 6 week USTV repeat scan the cyst had decreased significantly, my CA125 test was normal throughout (2 tests). I then had an MRI that confirmed the cyst was only now 1.5 cm, from the MRI they thought i had 2 cysts separated by a strip of ovary which initially they thought could be a septation. The good news is they don't need to monitor anymore, however the MRI picked up Adenomyosis, endometriosis, and a large fibroid all causing symptoms similar to OV cancer.
I am 50 but have regular 28 day cycles still and no sign of menopause yet. Please don't worry at this stage, the CA125 test is much more accurate in post menopausal women, most cysts are benign (especially if they think its haemorragic ) if they are adopting a wait and see then they are hopeful it may resolve on its own.
I was so stressed and worried through the whole diagnostic process, please don't worry at this stage they are clearly taking good care of you xxx
Thank you so much for your reply .it meant a lot to me as nobody seems to know much about this cyst .i originally got sent for an ultrasound by my doctor as since coming back from morrocco last year was having trouble with stomach pain .nothing but small polop on gallbladder was found.then a week later was in extreme pain and ended up in A and E .they requested a stool sample and ct scan.the stool sample came back with H Poli parasite .must have been picked up on holiday .anyway that was treated and all seemed better .then the ct scan came through and this is when the adnexal mass was found.a quick referral for a transvaginal and gynocologist said he could find nothing.?? Checked ca125 and was ok and signed off.6 months later moved and my new doctor wanted another ultrascan and TVUS as was off my food and generally not feeling well.tvus picked up the mass but no fluid was detected .another gynocologist just said did I want an operation !! Well I said what for you have told me nothing about what it was.she then ordered a MRI scan and it came back as possible haemorrhagic cyst .tvus scans have said indeterminate .ct scan indeterminate .just had a letter to say wait and see approach .i just wish someone would explain what all this means.i am due another scan and ca125 blood test .is it cancerous or benign or can they not tell.whatever will be will be but I have done nothing but Google to try and find answers.it will be interesting to know how you get on so please let me know and I will likewise .thanks for replying .have a good weekend .
Hello 😊
Really happy to share , if possible it’s best to have a gynaecologist who is a specialist in oncology, they can’t always tell if the cyst is cancerous or benign, but they are usually benign and only a small percentage are malignant, the medical profession have a scoring system, age, menapausal/non, size of the cyst and wether it is separated ( divided) if they have adopted a wait and see then they are expecting the cyst to resolve on its own hopefully, if they think it’s a haemorragic cyst then they are definitely expecting it to resolve in its own ( I had one and it did)
CT/MRI /TVUS/ and CA125 together is definitely everything to give them the best picture. Please don’t worry it’s hard not to, I did and it’s hard to switch off, but definitely don’t even be tempted by mr google, write down any questions you have, they definitely would not adopt a wait and see if they had found anything on the scans that would cause them to suspect malignancy, my gyn onc said to me a cyst doesn’t turn bad it starts bad if it’s a bad one! So I am sure and keeping everything crossed it will resolve ( my cyst did it was 1.5 cm last MRI)
Great to talk anytime , hoping you park mr google and have a really lovely day, don’t worry and honestly they are taking good care of you xxx
Ah thank you so much .i have managed to find a paper on all cysts and treatments that may be of interest to you.i am not computer savvy at copy and paste but if you would like a copy I can send it email .it does explain everything and very good reading.you are right to say don't worry (damned hard) but I understand now how Google can take over.i have copies of all my scans so can now try and digest what it all means .so I can ask questions .if you give me your email I can send them over if you wish .thank you for your sensible reply and have a great weekend
Hello
That would be great, I really hope and keeping everything crossed that the next scan shows the cyst resolving the consultant told me they can take a good few months or even up to a year to resolve. I read everything initially, I work in the medical/ scientific cancer field, so sometimes wishing I knew a lot less, it sort of takes over all your thoughts however hard to put it aside, all the scans and not knowing is tough.
Reading the posts on this site just amazes me how many wonderful brave ladies are dealing with OC day to day.
It’s great keeping in touch such a support, please keep me up dated or if you just need a chat😊x if you have any burning questions I see my gyn onc Thursday I will ask him for you 😊😊
